अनुसंधान करने वालों का यह मत है कि पशु-पक्षियों में संगीत का विशेष उपयोग होता है, वे निराशा, हर्ष, भय, प्रेम, आनन्द और क्रोध आदि भावों को प्रकट करते हुए विभिन्न स्वरों में बोलते पाये जाते हैं।
कुछ विद्वानों का यह भी मत है कि मनुष्य ने संगीत कला पशु-पक्षियों से ग्रहण की है । (देखें, ध्वनि और संगीत पृ. १४३)
Elaboration-The examples of animals given as sources of seven musical notes affirm the theory given by scholars that sounds produced by animals are more musical as compared to that produced by humans. Researchers opine that animals have greater use of musical sounds. In their effort to convey feelings of despair, joy, fear, love, ecstasy, anger, etc. they are found to use a variety of notes and tones. Some scholars even go to the extant that man has learned music from animals and birds. (Dhvani aur Sangeet, p. 143)

(५) एएसि णं सत्तण्हं सराणं सत्त सरलक्खणा पण्णत्ता । तं जहा(१) सज्जेण लहइ वित्तिं कयं च न विणस्सई । गाव पुत्ताय मित्ताय नारीणं होति वल्लहो ॥ ३२ ॥ (२) रिसहेणं तु एसज्जं सेणावच्चं धणाणि य ।
वत्थ गंधमलंकारं इत्थीओ सयणाणि य ॥ ३३ ॥ (३) गंधारे गीतजुत्तिणा वज्जवित्ती कलाहिया ।
हवंति कइणो पण्णा जे अण्णे सत्थपारगा ॥३४॥ (४) मज्झिमसरमंता उ हवंति सुहजीविणो ।
खाई पिई देई मज्झिमस्सरमस्सिओ ॥ ३५ ॥ (५) पंचमस्सरमंता उ हवंती पुहवीपती ।
सूरा संगहत्तारो अग णरणायगा ॥ ३६ ॥
