submitted, “Bhante! This is Thavacchaputra, the only and beloved son of his mother. He desires to get detached from the worldly affairs and get initiated into your order. Kindly accept him as a disciple-donation from me." With these words he appealed to Arhat Arishtanemi to accept Thavacchaputra as a disciple. (details as mentioned in the story of Megh Kumar)
When Arhat Arishtanemi accepted the request of Krishna Vasudev, Thavacchaputra proceeded in the north-east direction and shed his ornaments and cloths. According to the tradition his mother Thavaccha collected all these in a white cloth. With tear filled eyes she said, "Son! Follow the discipline of the order with due care. Son! indulge in the practices with resolve and courage and don't show even a trace of negligence and lethargy." Expressing her feelings thus, she returned.
सूत्र २१. तए णं से थावच्चापुत्ते पुरिससहस्सेहिं सद्धिं सयमेव पंचमुट्ठियं लोयं करेइ, जाव पव्वइए। तए णं से थावच्चापुत्ते अणगारे जाए इरियासमिए भासासमिए जाव विहरइ।
सूत्र २१. थावच्चापुत्र ने एक हजार पुरुषों के साथ स्वयं ही पंचमुष्टि लोच किया और यथाविधि दीक्षा लेकर अनगार हो गया। ईर्यासमिति, भाषासमिति आदि सभी श्रमण नियमों का पालन करता विचरने लगा।
21. Pulling out all the hair from the head (formally termed as fivefistful pulling out of hair) Thavacchaputra and the accompanying one thousand persons took Diksha in the prescribed manner and became ascetics. They took to the ascetic way of life following the discipline of movement, discipline of speech, and all the other rules of the order.
सूत्र २२. तए णं से थावच्चापुत्ते अरहओ अरिट्ठनेमिस्स तहारूवाणं थेराणं अंतिए सामाइयमाइयाइं चोद्दसपुव्वाई अहिज्जइ। अहिज्जित्ता बहूहिं जाव चउत्थेणं विहरइ। तए णं अरिहा अरिट्ठनेमी थावच्चापुत्तस्स अणगारस्स तं इब्भाइयं अणगारसहस्सं सीसत्ताए दलयइ।
सूत्र २२. अरिहन्त अरिष्टनेमि के वरिष्ट स्थविरों की निश्रा में थावच्चापुत्र ने सामायिकादि से आरंभ कर चौदह पूर्वो तक सभी विषयों का अध्ययन किया। वे
