Elaboration --Three points have been made in this aphorisme regarding wearing dress
(1) Beg for plane, simple and low priced acceptable clothes. (2) Avoid making them attractive and eye-catching by washing or
dyeing before wearing. (3) Wear the same ordinary clothes while moving about in
villages or cities. Elaborating the phrase 'no dhoejja no rayejja' Acharya Shri Atmaramji M. writes—“This censure is with the view to avoid decoration, embellishment, beautification and glamour seeking. To make the clothes extra white to make them attractive is also proscribed. However, if the cloth is dirty or repulsive and the ascetic cleans it with prudence, the act is not censured in the scriptures. To wash a cloth for the purpose of becoming attractive and glamorous is censured.” In the opinion of Shilankacharya, the commentator (Vritti), this statement is basically meant for Jinakalpi ascetics but as the adjective used is dressed, it also includes Sthavir-kalpi ascetics.

२३७. से भिक्खू वा २ गाहावइकुलं पिण्डवायपडियाए पविसिउकामे सव्वं चीवरमायाए गाहावइकुलं निक्खमेज्ज वा पविसेज्ज वा। एवं बहिया वियारभूमिं वा विहारभूमिं वा गामाणुगामं वा दूइज्जेज्जा। ___ अह पुणेवं जाणेज्जा तिव्यदेसियं वा वासं वासमाणं पेहाए, जहा पिण्डेसणाए, णवरं सव्वं चीवरमायाए।
२३७. साधु-साध्वी जब आहार-पानी के लिए गृहस्थ के घर में जाना चाहे तो अपने समस्त वस्त्र साथ में लेकर उपाश्रय से निकले और गृहस्थ के घर में भिक्षा के लिए प्रवेश करे। इसी प्रकार बस्ती से बाहर स्वाध्याय भूमि या शौचार्थ स्थंडिल भूमि में जाते समय एवं ग्रामानुग्राम विहार करते समय अपने सभी वस्त्रों को साथ लेकर विचरण करे। ___ यदि वह जाने कि दूर-दूर तक वर्षा हो रही है यावत् उड़ने वाले बस प्राणी एकत्रित होकर गिर रहे हैं, तो यह सब देखकर साधु वैसा ही आचरण करे जैसा कि पिण्डैषणा
