This may make these mendicants a burden on the householder and many people could start refusing to provide a place of stay to visiting mendicants for this reason. This censure is designed to avoid ascetics becoming a burden on householders and causing them to indulge in any sinful activity. (Hindi Tika, p. 1026)

आठ निषिद्ध उपाश्रय
१११. से भिक्खू वा २ से जं पुण उवस्सयं जाणेज्जा सागारियं सागणियं सउदयं, णो पण्णस्स णिक्खमण-पवेसाए णो पण्णस्स वायण जाव चिंताए, तहप्पगारे उवस्सए णो ठाणं वा ३ चेइज्जा।
१११. साधु-साध्वी को यदि ऐसा उपाश्रय मिले, जो गृहस्थों से संसक्त हो, अग्नि से युक्त हो, सचित्त जल से युक्त हो, तो उसमें प्रज्ञावान साधु-साध्वी का निर्गमन-प्रवेश करना उचित नहीं है। ऐसा उपाश्रय वाचना, (पृच्छा, परिवर्तना, अनुप्रेक्षा और धर्मानुयोग-) चिन्तन के लिए भी उपयुक्त नहीं है। ऐसे उपाश्रय में कायोत्सर्ग (शयन-आसन तथा स्वाध्याय) आदि कार्य भी नहीं करना चाहिए।

EIGHT PROHIBITED UPASHRAYAS
111. A bhikshu or bhikshuni should find if the available upashraya is occupied by householders, has fire in it and has sachit water in it. If it is so, it is not proper for a wise ascetic to enter and leave that house. Such house is unsuitable for his discourse (inquiry, revision, analysis, religious discussion) and contemplation as well. Even meditation (rest and study) and other ascetic activities should not be done there.
