८१. से भिक्खू वा २ से जं पुण उवस्सयं जाणेज्जा अस्संजए भिक्खुपडियाए कडिए वा उक्कंबिए वा छत्ते वा लेते वा घटे वा मढे वा संमढे वा संपधूविए वा। तहप्पगारे उवस्सए. अपुरिसंतरकडे जाव अणासेविए णो ठाणं वा ३ चेइज्जा। अह पुणेवं जाणेज्जा पुरिसंतरकडे जाव आसेविए, पडिलेहित्ता पमज्जित्ता तओ संजयामेव जाव चेइज्जा।
८१. साधु-साध्वी ऐसा उपाश्रय जाने, जोकि गृहस्थ ने साधुओं के निमित्त बनाया है। काष्ठादि लगाकर सँवारा है। बाँस आदि से बाँधा है। घास आदि से आच्छादित किया है। गोबर आदि से लीपा है। सँवारा है, घिसा है, चिकना किया है, समतल बनाया है। धूप आदि सुगन्धित द्रव्यों से सुवासित किया है। ऐसा उपाश्रय यदि अपुरुषान्तरकृत यावत् अनासेवित हो तो उसमें कायोत्सर्ग आदि नहीं करना चाहिए। यदि वह यह जान ले कि वह उपाश्रय पुरुषान्तरकृत यावत् गृहस्थ द्वारा आसेवित हो चुका है तो उसका प्रतिलेखन एवं प्रमार्जन करके वहाँ स्थान आदि क्रियाएँ कर सकता है।
81. A bhikshu or bhikshuni should find if an upashraya has been constructed specifically for ascetics. It has been decorated with things like wood. It has been constructed with bamboos. It has been thatched with hay or other such things. It has been plastered with cow-dung or other such things. It has been cleaned, ground, polished and leveled. It has been fumed with incense or other aromatic things. If such upashraya has not already been used by the owner then it should not be used for ascetic activities including meditation. However, if it has already been used by the owner or a householder then it can be used after inspecting and cleaning by the ascetic for his ascetic activities including meditation.
विशेष शब्दों के अर्थ-कडिए-चटाइयों आदि के द्वारा चारों ओर से आच्छादित या सुसंस्कृत। उक्कंबिए-खम्भों पर बाँसों को तिरछे रखकर बनाया हुआ। छत्ते-घास, दर्भ आदि से ऊपर का भाग आच्छादित कर देना। लेते-दीवार आदि पर गोबर आदि से लीपना, ये उत्तरगुण (उत्तर परिकर्म) हैं, जो मूलगुणों (मूल परिकर्म) को नष्ट कर देते हैं। घट्टे-चूने, पत्थर आदि खुरदरे पदार्थ से घिसकर विषम स्थान को सम बनाना। मढे-कोमल बनाना। समढे-साफ कर देना। संपधूविते-धूप आदि सुगन्ध द्रव्यों से दुर्गन्ध को सुगन्धित करना। (निशीथ चूर्णि, उ. ५, बृहत्कल्प वृत्ति, पृ. १६९)
