इस सूत्र में 'विप्परामुसंति' क्रियापद दो बार प्रयुक्त हुआ है। पहली बार इसका अर्थ किया गया है-जो विविध प्रकार से विषयाभिलाषा या कषायोत्तेजना के वश छह काय के जीवों का उपघात करते हैं। दूसरी बार के प्रसंगवश अर्थ किया गया है-उन एकेन्द्रियादि प्राणियों का अनेक प्रकार से विघात करने वाले, उन्हें पीड़ा देकर पुनः उन्हीं षड्जीवनिकायों में अनेक बार उत्पन्न होते हैं।
'अट्ठाए अणवाए'-'अर्थ' का भाव है प्रयोजन या कारण। जीव-हिंसा के तीन प्रयोजन होते हैं-काम, अर्थ और धर्म। विषय-भोगों के साधनों को प्राप्त करने के लिए जो दूसरों का वध या उत्पीड़न किया जाता है, वह कामार्थक हिंसा है। व्यापार कृषि आदि के लिए जो हिंसा की जाती है, वह अर्थार्थक हिंसा है और धर्म के नाम से या धर्म निमित्त पशुबलि आदि देना धर्मार्थक हिंसा कही जाती है। ये तीनों प्रकार की हिंसाएँ अर्थ के लिए और शेष हिंसा अनर्थक कहलाती हैं। _ 'गुरू से कामा' पद का रहस्य बताते हुए कहा है कि काम-भोग दुस्त्याज्य हैं अर्थात् उनको छोड़ना सहज नहीं है। इसलिए कामों को 'गुरु' कहा गया है। ___ 'जओ से मारस्स अंतों' आदि पदों का भावार्थ यह है कि सुख का कामी मानव काम-भोगों का परित्याग नहीं कर सकता। अतः कामी मानव मृत्यु की पकड़ के भीतर रहता है और मृत्यु की पकड़ के भीतर होने से वह जन्म, जरा, मरण, रोग, शोक आदि से घिरा रहता है, इस कारण वह सुख से दूर रहता है।
Elaboration-Showing the worthless nature of worldly pleasures and violence and other sinful activities performed in order to avail those, this lesson inspires one to refrain from sinful activity done out of ignorance and fondness.
In this aphorism the term vippuramusanti has been used twice. In the first instance the meaning is-driven by mundane desires or inflamed passions, who destroys beings belonging to six life forms. In the second instance, in varied a context, the meaning is-those who destroy those six life forms in many ways are reborn, after tormenting them, many a times in those same six life forms. ___ Atthaye anatthaye (arthaya anarthayay)-Arth means purpose or reason. There are three reasons for destroying beingscarnal desires, wealth and religion.
