(३) अपने सुख-दुःख के साथ अन्य प्राणियों के सुख-दुःख की तुलना करके पर्यालोचन करना। इन्हीं तीन बातों का ज्ञान प्राप्त करना त्रिविद्या है।
बौद्धदर्शन में त्रिविद्या का निरूपण इस प्रकार है-(१) पूर्वजन्मों को जानने का ज्ञान, (२) मृत्यु तथा जन्म को जानने का ज्ञान, (३) चित्तमलों के क्षय का ज्ञान। इन तीन विद्याओं को
प्राप्त करने वाले को वहाँ “तिविज्ज' (त्रैविद्य) कहा है। ॐ दूसरा पाठान्तर ‘अतिविज्जे' है। इसका अर्थ वृत्तिकार ने इस प्रकार किया है जिसकी विद्या
जन्म, जरा, सुख-दुःख के दर्शन से तत्त्व का विश्लेषण करने वाली है, वह अतिविद्य अर्थात् उत्तम ज्ञानी है।
'परम' के अनेक अर्थ हो सकते हैं-निर्वाण, मोक्ष, सत्य (परमार्थ)। सम्यग्दर्शन, सम्यग्ज्ञान, 3 सम्यग्चारित्र तथा पारिणामिक भाव।
“जो समत्वदर्शी है, वह पाप नहीं करता।" इसका तात्पर्य यह है कि पाप और विषमता के मूल कारण राग और द्वेष हैं। जो अपने भावों को राग-द्वेष से कलुषित-मिश्रित नहीं करता और न ही किसी प्राणी को राग-द्वेषयुक्त दृष्टि से देखता है, वह समत्वदर्शी होता है।
सम्मत्तदंसी का एक रूप सम्यक्त्वदर्शी अर्थात् सम्यग्दृष्टि होता है। “सम्यग्दृष्टि जीव आरंभ-समारंभ में आसक्त नहीं बनता" यह कथन तो ठीक है, किन्तु वह पाप नहीं करता यह कथन ऊँचे गुणस्थानों की अपेक्षा से ही लगता है; ऐसा आचार्य श्री आत्माराम जी म. का अभिमत है।
Elaboration-One who knows about birth, aging and death tries to avoid these. The cause of life and death is violence and attachment. These are also the roots of happiness and misery. Pondering over this, a being can protect himself from these sources of misery.
Tamhativijjam-one who has acquired three types of knowledge. This is an indication to perceive and know three things which are—(1) knowledge of earlier births, (2) knowledge about birth and death, and (3) comparative study of one's own happiness and sorrow and those of other beings. Trividya means to acquire the knowledge of these three things.
Buddhism lists trividya as-(1) knowledge of earlier births, 8 (2) knowledge about birth and death, and (3) the knowledge about 9 process of casting off the dirt of mind or thoughts. One who acquires
these three is called tivijja or traividya. a) आचारांग सूत्र
