तओ से एगया विपरिसिटुं संभूयं महोवगरणं भवइ। तं पि से एगया दायादा Faविभयंति, अदत्तहारो वा से अवहरति, रायाणो वा से विलुपंति, णस्सइ वा से,
विणस्सइ वा से, अगारदाहेण वा से डज्झति। ___ इति से परस्स अट्ठाए कूराई कम्माइं बाले पकुव्वमाणे तेण दुक्खेण मूढे विप्परियासुवेइ।
८३. प्रत्येक आत्मा का दुःख और सुख अपना-अपना स्वयंकृत होता है, यह जानकर (इन्द्रियों पर विजय प्राप्त कर)
कुछ मनुष्य भोग के विषय में ही बार-बार सोचते रहते हैं।
इस संसार में कुछ मनुष्य (जो विषयों की चिन्ता करते हैं) त्रिविध (अपने, दूसरों के अथवा दोनों के सम्मिलित) प्रयत्नों से अल्प या बहुत-सी धन-सम्पदा एकत्र कर लेते हैं। वह फिर उस धन-सम्पदा में आसक्त होता है। भोग के लिए उसकी रक्षा करता है। ___ भोग के बाद बची हुई विपुल सम्पत्ति के कारण वह महान् वैभव वाला बन जाता है। फिर जीवन में कभी ऐसा समय आता है, जब उस सम्पत्ति में से दायाद (पुत्र आदि) हिस्सा बँटाते हैं, चोर उसे चुरा लेते हैं, राजा उसे छीन लेते हैं, वह अन्य प्रकार से नष्ट-विनष्ट हो जाती है। गृह-दाह आदि से जलकर भस्म हो जाती है। ___ इस प्रकार अज्ञानी पुरुष दूसरों के लिए अनेक क्रूर कर्म करता हुआ दुःख उत्पन्न होने पर मूढ़ बनकर विपर्यास भाव को प्राप्त होता है।
83. Knowing that every soul causes its own happiness or grief (one should win over the senses)--
Some repeatedly think about mundane pleasures.
In this world some men (who are obsessed with mundane pleasures), with three types of efforts (his own, by others and by both or his wealth combined with skill and labour of others) accumulate little or enormous wealth. He is then obsessed with that wealth and protects it for enjoyments.
With the large wealth saved after his enjoyments he becomes enormously rich and with much belongings. A time comes when his son-in-law, sons and grandsons take away shares of that collected wealth, thieves steal, or kings confiscate it. Or it is lost or destroyed.
