S. J. Warren's edition of Uvanga 8, the Nirayāvaliyão, appeared in the same year as Hermann Jacobi's edition of the Kalpasūtra and so was one of the earliest Jaina texts printed in Europe. Warren used four MSS, two from the 'koninklijke bibliotheek te Berlin (A,B) and two from Jacobi's collection (C, D): C being taken as the base and variants from the others added (Inleiding p.1). He seems not to have used Sricandra's cty, although, as Jacobi remarks in his review (p. 182), two MSS of it were known to be in the same Berlin library. Review. Hermann Jacobi ZDMG 34 (1880) 178–83. In his review (p. 178–79), Jacobi draws attention to the numerous abbreviations in the text: (i) those with the words vannao, navaram; (ii) those with references indicating other texts, as in jahā Citte, jahā Mehassa; (iii) those citing an initial word, e.g. mahatā; (iv) those using jāva; (v) finally, those using a key-word, e.g. Punnabhadda-ceie.
