The Apabhramsa Passages From ŚP
22. The illustration of Parisamkhyānaisedhiki Vyapekṣā (ŚP. p. 280). The text as given in the SP.:
वेवावल्लचि उदेद्धमुहे सज्जिअतिलइतकंड । कअण्णाप्पलिंपसरतहकामहो कोअंड ॥
The suggested reconstruction :
बे वावल्ल विउद्ध-मुहे सज्जिअ-तिलइ ति कंड कअ-कण्णुप्पलि पंच सर तहो कामहो कोदंड ॥
The Sanskrit Chaya :
द्वौ बाणौ विबुद्ध-मुखे सज्जित-तिलके त्रयः काण्डाः । कृत-कर्णोत्पले पञ्च शराः तस्य कामस्य कोदण्डे ॥
The observations on the passage in the ŚP. are helpful for reconstructing the passage.
It will be conceded that with some persistent struggle, it may be more or less possible to recover from such chaotic jumbles of letters, the original material form, verbal structure or with rare luck, even the complete meaningful connected text, although quite obviusly the, results attained would have varying degree of plausibility.
23. The illustation of Aprayojakatva (SP. p. 308). The printed text in SP. is as follows -
णोक्खी भल्लीसवमहेण णिम्मिअतइ लोके । विजेहिं विमुकी ते विमुअ...जहणळग्गीतेवि ॥
This may be restored as follows:
णोक्खी भल्ली स वम्महेण णिम्मिअ तइलोक्के वि । जेहिं विमुक्की ते वि मुअ जाहं ण लग्गी ते वि ॥
The Sanskrit chāyā :
अभिनवा (or अनन्या) भल्ली सा मन्मथेन निर्मिता त्रैलोक्ये अपि । येषु विमुक्ता ते अपि मृताः येषाम् न लग्ना ते अपि ॥
The metre is to be identified as Dohā, Compare a similar Dohā discussed under No. 12.
