Visvesvara's Alamkara-Kaustubha* : Prakrit Text Restored
In his " Index of authors and works on Sanskrit Poetics" P. V. Kane records five works by different authors bearing the name Alamkarakaustubha. Here we are concerned with the Alamkārakaustubha of Visvesvara Pandit who flourished in the First half of the 18th century. In this work there are over one hundred Prakrit verses quoted by Visvesvara to illustrate various figures of speech. With one or two exceptions these verses are easily traceable to their sources:
1) Ukkhaadumam va selam
(p. 28) उक्खअ-दुमं व सेलं हिम-हअ-कमलाअरं व लच्छि-विमुक्क । पीअ-मइरं व चसअं बहुल-पओसं व मुद्धअंदविरहिअं॥ (उत्खातद्रुममिव शैलं हिमहतकमलाकरमिव लक्ष्मी-विमुक्तम् । पीतमदिरमिव चषकं बहुल-प्रदोषमिव मुग्धचन्द्रविरहितम् ॥)
