SUTRA 25 विशुद्धिक्षेत्रस्वामिविषयेभ्योऽवधिमनःपर्यययोः ॥ २५ ॥ Vishuddhikshetrasvamivisayebhyoavadhimanahparyayayoh (25) Direct mental perception (manah-paryaya) differs from extrasensory perception (avadhi) by - its clarity - the spatial boundaries in which it functions - the degree of realization of the perceiver and - the type of the perceived objects. (25)
Both - clairvoyance/telepathy and direct mental perception - reach into regions beyond the range of the five senses. Yet apart from this common feature these two channels differ significantly from each other. 1 - Clarity - Direct mental perception cognizes its objects far clearer
than clairvoyance and telepathy. It can penetrate into subtle and subtlest aspects while clairvoyance and telepathy perceive only
gross levels in comparison. 2 - The spatial boundaries in which they function - Clairvoyance
and telepathy extend to the entire universe while direct mental perception covers only the range where human beings reside.
Though the space in which direct mental perception functions is limited, it cognizes qualitatively far subtler dimensions than
clairvoyance and telepathy. 3 - The degree of realization of the perceiver - Clairvoyance and
telepathy can be obtained by all beings in possession of a mind - i.e. human beings, devas and narakas.
Direct mental perception arises only in human beings in the seventh to twelfth stage of development.
