(6) Take pupalia lappacea (gāờarı), its another name is kosiu, put
sulphur into it. Cinnabar becomes best when the essence is put into it. It is said by Bhaktivijayal.
Samudraphena? Samudraphena is used in medicine. It is a substance discharged from the womb of a kind of sea-crocodile called Agnijāra and dried up; in the sun. It is stated in the Rasaratna Samuccaya that the womb of a kind of sea-crocodile comes to the shore, being carried by the waves of the sea and gets dried up. Its name is Agnijāra or vahnijāra. It is useful in killing (jarana) of mercury. It gets purified itself by the salt (Ksāra) of the sea. For this reason the necessity of the process of its purification has not been considered.3
Sindūra (Vèrmillion) Sindūra is mentioned in various chemical processes as stated in the Suvarņa Raupya Siddhi śastra.
Accoording to the Rasaratna Sam'uccaya of Vāgbhat, it is found like dry powder in small stores of the Himalayas, Vindhyas, etc; for this reason it is called girisindūra. It is also useful in binding (fixing) mercury.
Ratnas (gems) The Suvarna-Raupya-Siddhi-śāstra mentions a few gems, such as, mauktika (pearl) (or moti) garuda", vajra (diamond) and Palevo Pāşāņa a (a kind of stone) and camak paşaņas (magnetic stone), etc. in connection with the chemical process to make gold, etc But no systematic list of the gems as presented in other Indian alchemical works is found in this work.
