and store-house of whatever is dirty, inauspicious and decaying can be overcome by directing to and habituating the mind of adoring, worshipping and contemplating the soul which is neither temporal nor perishable, but on tne contrary eternal and shining by its own luminousity. This is the best and the sole way to shape the mind in the desired way.
Penance is in vain and empty
without self knowledge.
आत्मविभ्रमजं दुःखं, आत्मज्ञानात् प्रशाम्यति । नायतास्तत्र निर्वान्ति, कृत्वाऽपि परम तपः ।। ४१॥
To relieve onself from the Karmic chain it is essential that one must have the knowledge of the distinction between soul and body, the matter and spirit, for the external abstinence of the body from the momentary, alluring things and consequently yealding no fruits, is futile; it is therefore essential on one's part the attainment of the clear and subtle knowledge of the distinction between i spiritual and material; and till this discrimnative
