monies, according to the Jain philosophy, are designed for this purpose. In certain communities all gather for the purpose of concentration, and recite certain acts which they may have committed against the laws of nature, and thereby restore the equilibrium which was lost by the commission of those acts, and repair the waste of nagnetism. The concentration of many is more than the concentration of one alone. In this ceremony they assume different position, each of which has its meaning, and is designed to help the effort of concentration.
There are other ways of storing magnetism, and all these have some connection with our religious ceremonies, and are resorted to every day when we go to the temple. Of course when you have kept your will power in a certain condition a long time it is a sign of a very great quantity of this. The fanatics called fakirs forget that the end of all this practice is storing magnetism and using it for the best purposes. They ignore the end and continue the acts as long as they live. So they lose insight of the true purpose of discipline. They stand on the corner of the street, for instance, in a certain position, and continue to do so for many years. The only object of doing this is to gain power of will, but when they forget the great truths they also forget the reason of these acts. Still, from the fact that they are able to stand in this position for so long a time it is seen that they have a very strong will. In America you will not find this among the people.
