. 14. आत्मार्थ-स्वकीय आत्म-साधन के लिये जागरूक रहो। पर-परवस्तु का साधन करने का प्रयत्न न करो। जो (स्वयं की साधना छोड़कर) पर की साधना के लिये उद्यत रहता है वह अपनी साधना भी खो बैठता है।
14. Be watchful and cultivate spiritualism for your own benefit. Be little bothered about the material world. One who neglects one's own interest for the sake of alien interest is often denied true attainments.
जइ परो पडिसेवेज्ज, पावियं पडिसेवणं।
तुज्झ मोणं करेन्तस्स, के अट्रे परिहायति?।।15।। 15. यदि दसरा कोई पाप आचरण की प्रतिसेवना कर रहा है उस समय तू यदि मौन धारण करता है तो तेरे साधन की क्या हानि होगी?
15. If another indulges in sin, what ails thee to utter aught in this regard? Wiser shall it be to keep mum at the moment.
आतट्टो णिज्जरायन्तो, परट्रो कम्मबन्धणं।
अत्ता समाहिकरणं, अप्पणो य परस्स य।।16।। 16. आत्मार्थ का साधन (स्व की ओर दृष्टि) निर्जरा का हेतु है और पदार्थ (पर की ओर दृष्टि) का साधन कर्मबन्धन का हेतु है। आत्मा ही स्व और पर के लिये समाधिकारक है।
16. Attending to your own spiritual interest frees you from Karmas while watching avidly the material interests will generate Karmic bondage. It is the self that can discern it from the non
self.
अण्णातयम्मि अट्टालकम्मि किं जग्गिएण वीरस्स?। णियगम्मि जग्गियव्वं, इमो हु बहुचोरतो गामो।।17।।
17. अज्ञात अट्टालिका (महल) में अन्य वीर पुरुष के जागते रहने से क्या होगा? स्वयं को जाग्रत् रहना होगा। क्योंकि यह ग्राम चोरों से भरा हुआ है।
17. If a valiant person keeps a vigil in another palace, what shall it yield him? Keep your own vigil. The place is rampant with robbers.
जग्गाही, मा सुवाही, मा, ते धम्मचरणे पमत्तस्स।
काहिन्ति बहुं चोरा, संजमजोगे हिडाकम्म।।18।। 392 इसिभासियाई सुत्ताई
