7. An acquisitive individual burns with desire, craving for mundane and wanton luxuries and is blind to all other feelings and urges.
अदुवा परिसामज्झे, अदुवा वि रहे कडं।
ततो णिरिक्ख अप्पाणं, पावकम्मा णिरुम्भति।।8।। 8. परिषद् (सभा) में दूसरा रूप है और एकान्त (अकेले) में कुछ और रूप है। किन्तु, मुमुक्षु साधक आत्मा का निरीक्षण कर पापकर्मों को रोकता है।
8. A pattern of thought that operates in crowd is different from that in privacy. Hence an aspirant engages in introspection and wards off sinful deeds carefully.
दप्पचिण्णं सपेहाए, अणायारं च अप्पणो।
अणुवट्ठितो सदा धम्मे, सो पच्छा परितप्पति।।१।। 9. जो स्वकृत दुष्प्रणीत (अशुभवृत्ति से एकत्रित) कर्म और अनाचारों को देखता हुआ भी उपेक्षा करता है और धर्म के लिये सदा अनुपस्थित रहता है वह पीछे (जीवन की संध्या में) पछताता है।
9. One who negligently tolerates the onrush of vices and sins and is apathetic to pious deeds has nothing but repentance at the long last.
सुप्पइण्णं संपेहाए, आयारं वा वि अप्पणो।
सुपतिद्वितो सदा धम्मे, सो पच्छा उण तिप्पति।।10।। 10. जो स्वयं के सुप्रणीत (शुभवृत्ति से एकत्रित) कर्म और श्रेष्ट आचारव्यवहार का निरीक्षण करता है तथा आत्म-धर्म के प्रति सुप्रतिष्ठित होता है वह पीछे (जीवन की संध्या में) नहीं पछताता है।
10. One who nurtures pious deeds and ethical conduct and promotes self-realisation has nothing to regret in the end.
पुव्वरत्तावरत्तम्मि, संकप्पेण बहुं कडं।
सुकडं दुक्कडं वा वि, कत्तारमणुगच्छइ।।11।। 11. पूर्वरात्रि और अपर रात्रि में संकल्पों के द्वारा जो भी सुकृत अथवा दुष्कृत कार्य किये हैं वे कर्ता का अनुगमन करते हैं अर्थात् कर्ता के साथ चलते हैं।
___11. Good deeds or bad, that one has performed consciously in the prime of his life or in its wake, follow him as does a shadow.
