राजा ने तराजू मंगवा कर एक पलडे में कबूतर को रखा और दूसरे में छूरी से अपनी जांघ में से मांस काट-काट कर रखने लगे, लेकिन कबूतर का पलडा नीचे ही रहा। आखिर राजा स्वयं ही पलडे पर बैठ गये। सभी लोग हाहाकार करने लगे: अरे नरनाथ ! आप यह क्या करते है? एक कबूतर के लिए पूरे जीवन का बलिदान ? नि:संदेह यह कबूतर कोई देवमाया है। नहीं तो इतना वजन कहां से ? मनुष्यवाणी कहां से?
The king got a balance and in one plate he
placed the dove. Then he took a knife and cut some flesh from his thigh and placed it in other plate of the balance. But though he placed large pieces of his flesh in the plate, the other plate containing the dove was hanging down as if it had greater weight. Finally, the king himself sat in the plate.
All the beholders cried out in great anguish, "Oh great king! Oh, you ruler of men! What are you doing? In order to save the life of a dove, you are sacrificing your own life. Undoubtedly, this dove has some magical or supernatural powers. It is a divine bird! Otherwise, how could it be so heavy ? Moreover, how could it speak the human language ?"
इतने में ही तेज से देदिप्यमान एक देव प्रगट हुआ और कहने लगा: हे राजन् ! ईशानेन्द्र
