વિદ્યુતશક્તિ વિદ્યુતચુંબકીય ક્ષેત્રથી બનેલી છે. આનો અર્થ એ થયો કે વિદ્યુતના તરંગ, પ્રકાશના તરંગ અને રેડિયોના તરંગમાં મૂળભૂત કોઈ જ ફરક નથી. તથા A.C. (પ્રત્યાવર્ત પ્રવાહ)વિદ્યુત તરંગની ફ્રિક્વન્સી ૫૦/૬૦ Hz હોય છે - આ વાત પણ વિજ્ઞાનસિદ્ધ છે. પરંતુ જો વિદ્યુતને એનર્જી સ્વરૂપ માનવામાં આવે તો D.C. (એકદિશ પ્રવાહ) વિદ્યુત પ્રવાહ પણ વિદ્યુત ચુંબકીય તરંગ સ્વરૂપ હોવાથી તેની પણ ફ્રિક્વન્સી માનવી પડે. પણ વસ્તુસ્થિતિ એ છે કે D.C. વિદ્યુત પ્રવાહની ફ્રિક્વન્સી ઝીરોની ખૂબ નજીક છે. આ પ્રમાણે તો વિદ્યુતનો નાનામાં નાનો કણ ફોટોન બને, ઈલેક્ટ્રોન નહિ. માટે વિદ્યુતને કેવળ એનર્જીસ્વરૂપ માની ન શકાય. પરંતુ ઈલેક્ટ્રીક ચાર્જ સ્વરૂપે-પૌદ્ગલિક દ્રવ્યરૂપે માનવી જોઈએ.
આ બાબત ઈન્ટરનેટના માધ્યમથી આપણને આવા શબ્દોમાં જાણવા મળે છે. “In an electric circuit, the electrical energy is composed of electrostatic fields and magnetic fields and is called Electromagnetism or "EM." Therefore, under this definition of the word, the "electricity" has to be made of Electromagnetic Fields. Electricity is the same stuff as radio waves and light. In AC power lines, the electricity is made of 60Hz electromagnetic fields. In DC circuits the electricity is still the EM fields, but their frequency is close to zero.
