He says: They . may be scholars but are certainly not good men ; it is only good men who can appreciate virtue. Scholars seem to suffer from jealousy, since the treatises of even great scholars show the same fact.1 No data are available as regards the personal life of Durveka.' Only this much is known that he was a pupil of Jitari. He has confessed his poverty at the end of the Hetu-bindu-tika-aloka.2 Pt. Sukhlalji holds that Durveka lived at the end of the 10th and the first quarter of the 11th century, since the teacher of Dipankara was Jitari.
