The Curņikāra holds that this Āgama is 'ćaranakaraṇānuyoga (treatise on conduct). Silänkasűri has classified it under Drawyānuyoga' (treatise on substances). According to him the Ācārānga is primarily a čaraņakaranayoga while 'Sūtrakritānga' is primarily a 'Drawyānuyoga",
The Samawāya and the Nandi give an account of the 'Dwādaśängi." At the end of the account of the Angas, the lines read 'ewam carņakaranaparuwanayā'. Abhayadeva Súri connotes the meaning of 'carana' as Sramaņa-dharma' and of Karana' as 'Pinda-vićuddbi, Samiti etc.'
The currikara has regarded the Kalikasrata as a 'caraṇakaranayoga' and the 'Driştiwäda' as a 'drawyanuyoga'.'
The Dwadasangi primarily expounds the Driştiwāda, treatise on substances and secondarily the code of conduct. The Currikara legimately regards this Āgama primarily as a treatise on the code of conduct while the Vrittikāra lying stress upon its ascertainment of Dravya (substance), calls it Dravyašastra (a treatise on substance). Both of these classifications have a dialectical variation.
