प्रथम उद्देशक] [271 22. परिहारकल्प स्थित भिक्षु (स्थविर की आज्ञा से) अन्यत्र किसी रुग्ण स्थविर को वैयावृत्य के लिए जावे, उस समय स्थविर उसे स्मरण दिलावे या न दिलावे अर्थात् परिहारतप छोड़कर जाने की स्वीकृति दे या न दे तो उसे मार्ग के ग्रामादि में एक रात्रि विश्राम करते हुए और शक्ति हो तो परिहारतप वहन करते हुए जिस दिशा में रुग्ण स्थविर है उस दिशा में जाना कल्पता है। ____ मार्ग में उसे विचरण के लक्ष्य से रहना नहीं कल्पता है किन्तु रोगादि के कारण रहना कल्पता है / कारण के समाप्त हो जाने पर यदि कोई वैद्य आदि कहे कि "हे आर्य ! तुम यहां एक-दो रात और रहो" तो उसे वहां एक-दो रात और रहना कल्पता है किन्तु एक-दो रात से अधिक रहना नहीं कल्पता है / जो वहां एक-दो रात्रि से अधिक रहता है उसे उस मर्यादा-उल्लंघन का छेद या तप प्रायश्चित्त पाता है / . विवेचन-पूर्वसूत्र में परिहारतप करने वाले भिक्षु के साथ निषद्या आदि के व्यवहार का निषेध एवं अपवाद कहा गया है / प्रस्तुत सूत्रत्रिक में परिस्थितिवश पारिहारिक भिक्षु को स्थविर की सेवा के लिए भेजने का वर्णन किया गया है। पारिहारिक भिक्षु अपने प्रायश्चित्त तप की आराधना करता हुआ भी सेवा में जा सकता है अथवा तप की आराधना छोड़कर भी जा सकता है / प्रथम सूत्र में बताया गया है कि स्थविर तप छोड़ने का कहें तो तप छोड़कर जावे। दूसरे सूत्र में बताया गया है कि स्थविर तप छोड़ने का न कहें तो प्रायश्चित्त तप वहन करते हुए जावे / तीसरे सूत्र में बताया गया है कि स्थविर कहें या न कहें, यदि शक्ति हो तो परिहारतय वहन करते हुए ही जावे और शक्ति न हो तो स्वीकृति लेकर परिहारतप छोडकर जावे। पारिहारिक भिक्षु तप करते हुए जावे या तप छोड़कर जावे तो विश्रांति के लिए उसे मार्ग में एक जगह एक रात्रि से अधिक नहीं रुकना चाहिए। धर्म प्रभावना के लिए या किसी की प्रार्थना-आग्रह से वह मार्ग में अधिक नहीं रुक सकता है किन्तु स्वयं को प्रशक्ति या बीमारी के कारण अधिक रुकना चाहे तो वह रुक सकता है। यदि बीमारी के कारण 5-10 दिन तक रहे और उसका उपचार भी करना पड़े तो ठहर सकता है और स्वस्थ होने के बाद किसी वैद्य या किसी हितैषी गहस्थ के कहने से एक या दो दिन और भी रुक सकता है। उसका कोई प्रायश्चित्त नहीं पाता है / स्वस्थ होने के बाद स्वेच्छा से या किसी के कहने पर दो दिन से अधिक रुके तो वह मर्यादाउल्लंघन के कारण यथायोग्य तप या छेद प्रायश्चित्त का पात्र होता है। "से संतरा छेए वा परिहारे वा" इस सूत्रांश का विवेचन बृहत्कल्पसूत्र उ. 2, सू. 4 में देखें। ___ गंतव्य स्थान का जो सीधा मार्ग संयम-मर्यादा के अनुसार हो तो उसी से वैयावृत्य के लिए जाना चाहिए किन्तु अधिक समय व्यतीत करते हुए यथेच्छ मार्ग से नहीं जाना चाहिए।
