सातवां उद्देशक] [393 में नहीं जाना चाहिए किंतु अन्य किसी जाने वाले भिक्षु के साथ क्षमायाचना का सन्देश भेज देना चाहिए, किन्तु भिक्षु को यथास्थान जाकर ही क्षमायाचना करना चाहिए / इस अलग-अलग विधान का कारण पूर्वसूत्र में कहे अनुसार ही समझ लेना चाहिए कि साध्वो का जाना पराधीन है और साधु का अकेला जाना भी संभव है। यदि निकट का क्षेत्र हो तो साध्वी को भी अन्य साध्वियों के साथ वहीं जाकर क्षमापणा करना चाहिए / सूत्रोक्त विधान प्रतिदूरस्थ क्षेत्र की अपेक्षा से है। भाष्य में बताया गया है कि बीच के क्षेत्रों में यदि राजाओं का युद्ध, दुर्भिक्ष आदि कारण उत्पन्न हो गए हों तो भिक्षु को भी अतिदूर क्षेत्र में रहे हुए हो क्षमापणा कर लेना चाहिए। क्षमापणा का धार्मिक जीवन में इतना अधिक महत्त्व है कि यदि किसी के साथ क्षमापणा भाव न आए और ऐसे भावों में कालधर्म प्राप्त हो जाय तो वह विराधक हो जाता है / वह क्षमापण द्रव्य एवं भाव के भेद से दो प्रकार का है—(१) द्रव्य से यदि किसी के प्रति नाराजगी का भाव या रोषभाव हो तो उसे प्रत्यक्ष में कहना कि---"मैं आपको क्षमा करता है और आपके प्रति प्रसन्नभाव धारण करता हूं।" यदि कोई व्यक्ति किसी की भूल के कारण रुष्ट हो तो उससे कहना कि-'मेरी गलती हुई आप क्षमा करें, पुन: ऐसा व्यवहार नहीं करूंगा"। (2) भाव से-शांति सरलता एवं नम्रता से हृदय को पूर्ण पवित्र बना लेना। इस प्रकार के व्यवहार से तथा भावों को शुद्धि-एवं हृदय की पवित्रता के साथ क्षमा करना और क्षमा मांगना यह पूर्ण क्षमापणाविधि है / परिस्थितिवश ऐसा सम्भव न हो तो बृह. उ. 1 सू. 34 के अनुसार स्वयं को पूर्ण उपशांत कर लेने से भी आराधना हो सकती है, किन्तु यदि हृदय में शांति, शुद्धि न हो तो बाह्य विधि से संलेखना, 15 दिन का संथारा और क्षमापणा कर लेने पर भी आराधना नहीं हो सकती है, ऐसा भगवतीसूत्र में आये अभीचिकुमार के वर्णन से स्पष्ट होता है। व्यतिकृष्टकाल में निर्ग्रन्थ-निर्ग्रन्थियों के लिए स्वाध्याय का विधि-निषेध 13. नो कप्पा निग्गंथाणं विइगिठे काले सज्झायं करेत्तए। 14. कप्पइ निग्गंथोणं विइगिठे काले सज्झायं करेत्तए निग्गंथनिस्साए / 13. निर्ग्रन्थों को व्यतिकृष्ट काल में (उत्कालिक आगम के स्वाध्यायकाल में कालिक आगम का) स्वाध्याय करना नहीं कल्पता है। 14. निर्ग्रन्थ की निश्रा में निर्ग्रन्थियों को व्यतिकृष्टकाल में भो स्वाध्याय करना कल्पता है / विवेचन-जिन आगमों का स्वाध्याय जिस काल में निषिद्ध है, वह काल उन आगमों के लिए व्यतिकृष्ट काल कहा जाता है। साधु-साध्वी को ऐसे समय में स्वाध्याय अर्थात् आगम के मूल पाठ का उच्चारण नहीं करना चाहिए ! वे काल निशीथ उद्देशक 19 में अनेक प्रकार के कहे गए हैं /
