पांचवां उद्देशक] ऐसे ही कारणों से स्वाध्याय या वाचना आदि के सिवाय साधु-साध्वी को परस्पर सभी प्रकार का संपर्क वजित है / इसलिये उन्हें एक दूसरे के उपाश्रय में सामान्य वार्तालाप या केवल दर्शन हेतु अथवा परम्परा-पालन के लिये नहीं जाना चाहिए। स्थानांगसूत्र-निदिष्ट सेवा आदि परिस्थितियों से जाना तो आगमसम्मत है। साधु-साध्वियों के परस्पर संपर्कनिषेध का विशेष वर्णन बृह. उ. 3 सूत्र 1 के विवेचन में देखें। उस सूत्र में परस्पर एक दूसरे के उपाश्रय के बैठने, खड़े रहने आदि अनेक कार्यो का निषेध है। परस्पर सेवा करने का विधि-निषेध 20. जे निग्गंथा य निग्गंथीयो य संभोइया सिया, नो गं कप्पइ अण्णमण्णणं वेयावच्चं कारवेत्तए। अस्थि य इत्थ णं के वेयावच्चकरे कप्पइ णं तेणं वेयावच्चं कारवेत्तए, नत्यि य इत्य णं केइ वेयावच्चकरे, एवं णं कप्पइ अण्णमण्णेणं वेयावच्चं कारवेत्तए। 20. जो साधु और साध्वियां सांभोगिक हैं, उन्हें परस्पर एक दूसरे की वैयावृत्य करना नहीं कल्पता है। यदि स्वपक्ष में कोई वैयाक्त्य करने वाला हो तो उसी से वैयावृत्य कराना कल्पता है। यदि स्वपक्ष में वैयावृत्य करने वाला कोई न हो तो साधु-साध्वी को परस्पर वैयावृत्य करना कल्पता है। विवेचन-पूर्वसूत्र में साधु-साध्वियों के परस्पर आलोचना करने का निषेध किया गया है और प्रस्तुत सूत्र में परस्पर एक दूसरे के कार्यों को करने का निषेध किया गया है। साधु-साध्वी के संयम हेतु शरीर सम्बन्धी और उपकरण सम्बन्धी जो भी आवश्यक कार्य हो वह प्रथम तो स्वयं ही करना चाहिए और कभी कोई कार्य साधु-साधुनों से और साध्वियां साध्वियों से भी करवा सकती हैं, यह विधिमार्ग है।। रोग आदि कारणों से या किसी आवश्यक कार्य के करने में असमर्थ होने से परिस्थितिवश विवेकपूर्वक साधु साध्वी परस्पर भी अपना कार्य करवा सकते हैं, यह अपवादमार्ग है। अतः विशेष परिस्थिति के बिना साधु-साध्वी को परस्पर कोई भी कार्य नहीं करना चाहिए / इन सूत्रों के पारस्परिक व्यवहारों के निषेध का मुख्य कारण यह है कि इन प्रवृत्तियों से अतिसम्पर्क, मोहवृद्धि होने से कभी ब्रह्मचर्य में असमाधि उत्पन्न हो सकती है और इस प्रकार का परस्पर अनावश्यक प्रतिसम्पर्क देखकर जन-साधारण में कई प्रकार की कुशंकाएं उत्पन्न हो सकती हैं। अतः सूत्रोक्त विधान के अनुसार ही साधु-साध्वियों को आचरण करना चाहिए। परस्पर किये जाने वाले सेवाकार्य-- (1) आहार-पानी लाकर देना या लेना अथवा निमंत्रण करना। (2) वस्त्र-पात्र आदि उपकरणों की याचना करके लाकर देना या स्वयं के याचित उपकरण देना।
