[1] कहि णं भंते ! माहिदाणं देवाणं पज्जत्ताऽपज्जत्ताणं ठाणा पण्णता ? कहि णं भंते ! माहिंदगदेवा परिक्संति ? गोयमा ! ईसाणस्स कप्पस्स उप्पि सपक्खि सपडिदिसि बहूइं जोयणाई जाव (सु. 166 [1]) बहगीयो जोयणकोडाकोडीमो उड्ढं दूरं उप्पइत्ता एत्थ णं माहिदे णामं कप्पे पायीण-पडीणायए एवं जहेब सणंकुमारे (सु. 166 [1]), णवरं अट्ठ विमाणावाससतसहस्सा / वडेंसया जहा ईसाणे (सु. 168 [1]), णवरं मज्झे यऽत्थ माहिंदवडेंसए / एवं सेसं जहा सणंकुमारगदेवाणं (सु. 166) जाव विहरति / _[200-1 प्र.] भगवन् ! पर्याप्तक और अपर्याप्तक माहेन्द्र देवों के स्थान कहाँ कहे गए हैं ? भगवन् ! माहेन्द्र देव कहाँ निवास करते हैं ? [200-1 उ.] गौतम ! ईशानकल्प के ऊपर समान पक्ष (पार्श्व या दिशा) और समान विदिशा में बहुत योजन, यावत्-- (सू. 166-1 के अनुसार) बहुत कोडाकोड़ी योजन ऊपर दूर जाने पर वहाँ माहेन्द्र नामक कल्प कहा गया है, पूर्व-पश्चिम में लम्बा इत्यादि वर्णन जैसे (सू. 196-1 में) सनत्कुमारकल्प का किया गया है, वैसे इसका भी समझना चाहिए / विशेष यह है कि इस कल्प में विमान आठ लाख हैं। इनके अवतंसक (सू. 198-1 में प्रतिपादित) ईशानकल्प के अवतंसकों के समान जानने चाहिए / विशेषता यह है कि इनके बीच में माहेन्द्रप्रवतंसक है / इस प्रकार शेष सब वर्णन (सू. 166 में वर्णित) सनत्कुमार देवों के समान, यावत् 'विचरण करते हैं', तक समझना चाहिए। [2] माहिदे यऽस्थ देविदे देवराया परिवसति अरयंबरवत्थधरे, एवं जहा सणंकुमारे (सु. 166 [2]) जाव विहरति / गवरं अट्ठण्हं विमाणावाससतसहस्साणं सत्तरीए सामाणियसाहस्सोणं चउण्हं सत्तरोणं आयरक्खदेवसाहस्सोणं जाव (स . 196) विहरइ / [200-2] यहीं देवेन्द्र देवराज माहेन्द्र निवास करता है; जो रज से रहित स्वच्छ-श्वेत वस्त्र-धारक है, इस प्रकार (आगे का समस्त वर्णन सू. 199-2 में उक्त) सनत्कुमारेन्द्र के वर्णन की तरह यावत 'विचरण करता है' तक समझना चाहिए। विशेष यह है कि माहेन्द्र पाठ लाख विमानावासों का, सत्तर हजार सामानिक देवों का, चार सत्तर हनार अर्थात-दो लाख अस्सी है आत्मरक्षक देवों का-(शेष सू. 166 के अनुसार) यावत् 'विचरण करता है' (तक समझना चाहिए / ) 201.
