(अ) समयखेते णं भंते ! केवइयं आयामविक्खंभेणं केवइयं परिक्खेवेणं पण्णते ? गोयमा ! पणयालीसं जोयणसयसहस्साई आयामविक्खंभेणं एगा जोयणकोडी जाव अभितर पुक्खरद्धपरिरओ से भाणियव्वो जाव प्रऊणपणे / से केणठेणं भंते ! एवं वुच्चइ-माणुसखेत्ते माणुसखेत्ते ? गोयमा! माणुस्सखेत्तेणं तिविहा मणुस्सा परिवसंति, तं जहा-कम्मभूमगा अकम्मभूमगा अंतरदीवगा। से तेणटुणं गोयमा ! एवं वुच्चइ माणुसखेते माणुसखेते। माणुसखेत्ते णं भंते ! कति चंदा पभासिसु वा 3, कइ सूरा विसु वा 3 ? बत्तीसं चंदसयं बत्तीसं चेव सूरियाण सयं / सयलं मणुस्सलोयं चरेंति एए पभासंता // 1 // एक्कारस य सहस्सा छप्पि य सोलगमहग्गहाणं तु / छच्च सया छण्णउया णक्खत्ता तिणि य सहस्सा // 2 // अउसीइ सयसहस्सा चत्तालीस सहस्स मणुयलोगंमि / / - सत्त य सया अणूणा तारागणकोडिकोडीणं // 3 // सोभं सोभेसु वा 3 / 177. (अ) हे भगवन् ! समयक्षेत्र (मनुष्यक्षेत्र) का आयाम-विष्कंभ कितना और परिधि कितनी है ? गौतम ! समयक्षेत्र आयाम-विष्कंभ से पैंतालीस लाख योजन का है और उसकी परिधि वही है जो प्राभ्यन्तर पुष्करवरद्वीप की कही है / अर्थात् एक करोड़, बयालीस लाख, तीस हजार, दो सौ उनपचास योजन की परिधि है। हे भगवन् ! मनुष्यक्षेत्र, मनुष्यक्षेत्र क्यों कहलाता है ? गौतम ! मनुष्यक्षेत्र में तीन प्रकार के मनुष्य रहते हैं, यथा-कर्मभूमक, अकर्मभूमक और अन्तर्वीपक / इसलिए यह मनुष्यक्षेत्र कहलाता है। हे भगवन् ! मनुष्यक्षेत्र में कितने चन्द्र प्रभासित होते थे, प्रभासित होते हैं और प्रभासित होंगे? कितने सूर्य तपते थे, तपते हैं और तपेंगे ? आदि प्रश्न कर लेना चाहिए। गौतम ! समयक्षेत्र में एक सौ बत्तीस चन्द्र और एक सौ बत्तीस सूर्य प्रभासित होते हुए सकल मनुष्यक्षेत्र में विचरण करते हैं / / 1 / /
