[1] एगोरुयदीवस्स गंभंते ! दोवस्स केरिसए आगारभावपडोयारे पण्णते? गोयमा! एगोल्यदीवस्स गं बीवस्स अंतो बहुसमरमणिज्जे भूमिमागे पण्णते, से जहानामए आलिंगपुक्खरेइ वा, एवं सयणिज्जे माणियब्वे नाव पुढविसिलापट्टगंसि तस्थ णं बहवे एगोल्यवीवया मणुस्सा य मणुस्सीमो य आसयंति जाव विहरति / [111] (1) हे भगवन् ! एकोषकद्वीप की भूमि आदि का स्वरूप किस प्रकार का कहा गया है ? ___ गौतम ! एकोषकद्वीप का भीतरी भूमिभाग बहुत समतल और रमणीय कहा गया है / जैसे मुरज (मृदंग विशेष) का चर्मपुट समतल होता है वैसा समतल वहां का भूमिभाग है-आदि / इसी प्रकार शय्या की मदता भी कहनी चाहिए याबत पृथ्वीशिलापद्रक का भी वर्णन करना जाहिए। उस शिलापट्टक पर बहुत से एकोरुकद्वीप के मनुष्य और स्त्रियां उठते-बैठते हैं यावत् पूर्वकृत शुभ कर्मों के फल का अनुभव करते हुए विचरते हैं / विवेचन--प्रस्तुत सूत्र में एकोषकद्वीप की भूमिरचना का वर्णन किया गया है। वहाँ का भूमिभाग एकदम समतल है। इस समतलता को बताने के लिए विविध उपमाओं का सहारा लिया गया है / सूत्र में साक्षात् रूप से 'प्रालिंगपुक्खरेइ वा' कहा गया है जिसका अर्थ है-आलिंग अर्थात् मुरज / मुरज मृदंग का ही एक प्रकार है / पुष्कर का अर्थ है-चर्मपुटक / जैसे मुरज और मृदंग का चर्मपुट एकदम समतल होता है उसी प्रकार एकोहकद्वीप का भूमिभाग एकदम समतल और रमणीय है / यावत् शब्द से अन्य निम्न उपमाओं का ग्रहण समझना चाहिए __जैसे मृदंग का मुख चिकना और समतल होता है, जैसे पानी से लबालब भरे हुए तालाब का पानी समतल होता है, जैसे हथेली का तलिया, चन्द्रमण्डल, सूर्यमण्डल, दर्पण का तल जैसे समतल होते हैं वैसे ही वहाँ का भूमिभाग समतल है / जैसे भेड़, बैल, सूपर, सिंह, व्याघ्र, वृक (भेड़िया) और चीता इनके चर्म को बड़ी-बड़ी कीलों द्वारा खींचकर अति समतल कर दिया जाता है वैसे ही वहां का भूमिभाग अति समतल और रमणीय है। वह भूमि प्रावर्त, प्रत्यावर्त, श्रेणी, प्रश्रेणी, स्वस्तिक, सोवस्तिक, पुष्यमान, वर्द्धमान, मत्स्याण्ड, मकराण्ड, जार मार पुष्पावलि, पद्मपत्र, सागरतरंग, वासन्तीलता, पद्मलता आदि नाना प्रकार के मांगलिक रूपों की रचना से चित्रित तथा सुन्दर दृश्य वाले, सुन्दर कान्ति, सुन्दर शोभा वाले, चमकती हुई उज्ज्वल किरणों वाले और प्रकाश वाले नाना प्रकार के पांच वर्णों वाले तृणों और मणियों से उपशोभित होती रहती है / वह भूमिभाग कोमलस्पर्श वाला है। उस कोमलस्पर्श को बताने के लिए शय्या का वर्णनक कहना चाहिए। तात्पर्य यह है कि प्राजिनक (मृगचर्म), रूई, बूर (वनस्पतिविशेष), मक्खन, तूल जैसे मुलायम स्पर्श वाली वह भूमि है / वह भूमिभाग रत्नमय, स्वच्छ, चिकना, घृष्ट (घिसा हुआ), मृष्ट (मंजा हुआ), रजरहित, निर्मल, निष्पंक, कंकररहित, सप्रभ, सश्रीक, उद्योतवाला प्रसाद पैदा करनेवाला दर्शनीय, अभिरूप और प्रतिरूप है।
