तृतीय प्रतिपति : नरकावासों के वर्णादि] [227 हे भगवन् ! सातवीं नरकपृथ्वी के नरकावासों का आयाम-विष्कंभ और परिधि कितनी है ? गौतम ! सातवीं पृथ्वी के नरकावास दो प्रकार के हैं-(१) संख्यात हजार योजन विस्तार वाले और (2) असंख्यात हजार योजन विस्तार वाले। इनमें जो संख्यात हजार योजन विस्तार वाला है वह एक लाख योजन पायाम-विष्कंभ वाला है उसकी परिधि तीन लाख सोलह हजार दो सौ सत्तावीस योजन, तीन कोस, एक सौ अट्ठावीस धनुष, साढ़े तेरह अंगुल से कुछ अधिक है। जो असंख्यात हजार योजन विस्तार वाले हैं, उनका आयाम-विष्कंभ असंख्यात हजार योजन का और परिधि भी असंख्यात हजार योजन की है। विवेचन-प्रस्तुत सूत्र में नरकावासों के संस्थान और आयाम-विष्कम्भ तथा परिधि बताई गई है। नरकावास दो प्रकार के हैं-पावलिकाप्रविष्ट और आवलिकाबाह्य / आठों दिशाओं में जो समश्रेणी में (श्रेणीबद्ध-कतारबद्ध) हैं, वे आवलिकाप्रविष्ट कहलाते हैं / वे तीन प्रकार के हैं, वृत्त, तिकोन और चौकोन / जो पुष्पों की तरह बिखरे-बिखरे हैं वे नरकावास नाना प्रकार के हैं / उन नाना प्रकारों को दो संग्रहणी गाथानों में बताया गया है' लोहे की कोठी, मदिरा बनाने हेतु आटे को पकाने का बर्तन, हलवाई की भट्टी, तवा, कढाई, स्थाली (डेगची), पिठरक (बड़ा चरु), तापस का प्राश्रम, मुरज, नन्दीमृदंग, आलिंगक मिट्टी का मृदंग, सुघोषा, दर्दर (वाद्यविशेष), पणव (भाण्डों का ढोल), पटह (सामान्य ढोल), झालर, भेरी, कुस्तुम्बक (वाद्य द्यावशेष) और नाडी (घटिका) के आकार के नरकावास हैं। ऊपर से संकुचित और नीचे से विस्तीर्ण है वह मृदंग है और ऊपर और नीचे दोनों जगह सम हो वह मुरज है। उक्त वक्तव्यता रत्नप्रभा से लेकर तमप्रभा नरकपृथ्वी के लिए समझनी चाहिए। सातवीं पृथ्वी के नरकावास आवलिकाप्रविष्ट ही हैं, पावलिकाबाह्य नहीं / आवलिकाप्रविष्ट ये नरकावास पांच हैं / चारों दिशाओं में चार हैं और मध्य में एक है। मध्य का अप्रतिष्ठान नरकावास गोल है और शेष 4 नरकावास तिकोने हैं। रत्नप्रभा दि के नरकावासों का बाहल्य तीन हजार योजन का है / एक हजार योजन का नीचे का भाग घन है, एक हजार योजन का मध्यभाग झुषिर है और ऊपर का एक हजार योजन का भाग संकुचित है / इसी तरह सातों पृध्वियों के नरकावासों का बाहल्य है। आयाम-विष्कम्भ और परिधि मूलपाठ से ही स्पष्ट है / नरकावासों के वर्णादि 83. इमीसे णं भंते ! रयणप्पभाए पुढवीए नेरया केरिसया वण्णेणं पण्णता? गोयमा ! काला कालावभासा गंभीरलोमहरिसा भीमा उत्तासणया परमकिण्हा वण्णणं पण्णत्ता, एवं जाव अहे सत्तमाए। 1. अय को? पिटुपयणग कंडूलोही कडाह संठाणा / थालीपिहडग किण्ह (ग) उडए मुखे मुयंगे य // 1 // नंदिमुइंगे प्रालिंग सुघोसे दद्दरे य पणवे य।। पडहगझलरि भेरी कुत्धुंबग नाडिसंठाणा // 2 //

**Gautama:** The hells on the seventh earth are of two types: (1) those with a diameter of a thousand yojanas, and (2) those with an immeasurable number of thousand yojanas. The ones with a diameter of a thousand yojanas have a diameter of one hundred thousand yojanas, and their circumference is three hundred sixteen thousand two hundred twenty-seven yojanas, three kosas, one hundred twenty-eight dhanus, and slightly more than thirteen and a half angulas.
