रहता है। वह सोचता है कि संयोग और वियोग - ये दोनों ही आत्मा के स्वभाव नहीं हैं। ये तो शुभाशुभ कर्मों के उदय का फल है। परकीय पदार्थों के संयोग और वियोग से आत्मा का न हित हो सकता है और न ही अहित ही। इसलिए वह सतत समभाव में रहता है। आचार्य भ्रदबाहु ने कहा - जो साधक त्रस और स्थावर रूप सभी जीवों पर समभाव रखता है, उसकी सामायिक शुद्ध होती है। जिसकी आत्मा संयम में, तप में, नियम में संलग्न रहती है, उसी की सामायिक शुद्ध होती है।
__ आचार्य हरिभद्र ने लिखा है - जैसे चन्दन, काटने वाली कुल्हाड़ी को भी सुगन्धित बना देता है, वैसे ही विरोधी के प्रति भी जो समभाव की सुगन्ध फैलाता है, उसी की सामायिक शुद्ध है।
समता के द्वारा साधक आत्मशक्तियों को केन्द्रित करके अपनी महान ऊर्जा को प्रकट करता है। मानव अनेक कामनाओं के भंवरजाल में उलझा रहता है, जिससे उसका व्यक्तित्व क्षत विक्षत हो जाता है। द्वन्द्व और तनाव का वातावरण बना रहता है। बर्बरता, पशुता, संकीर्णता व राग - द्वेष के विकार जन्तु पनपते रहते हैं। जब मानव समता से विचलित हुआ तब प्रकृति में विकृति, व्यक्ति में तनाव, समाज में विषमता, युग में हिंसा के तत्त्व उभरे हैं। उन सभी को रोकने के लिए, सन्तुलन और व्यवस्था बनाये रखने के लिए सामायिक की आवश्यकता है। सामायिक समता का लहराता हुआ निर्मल सागर है। जो साधक उसमें अवगाहन कर लेता है, वह राग द्वेष के कदम से मुक्त हो जाता है।
सामायिक की साधना बहुत ही उत्कृष्ट साधना है। अन्य जितनी भी साधनाएं हैं, वे सभी साधनाएं इसमें अन्तर्निहित हो जाती हैं। आचार्य जिनभद्रगणी क्षमाश्रमण ने सामायिक को चौदह पूर्व का अर्थपिण्ड कहा है। उपाध्याय यशोविजयजी ने सामायिक को सम्पूर्ण द्वादशांगी रूप जिनवाणी का साररूप बताया है। रंग बिरंगे खिले हुए पुष्पों का सार गंध है, यदि पुष्प में गंध नहीं है, केवल रूप ही है तो वह केवल दर्शकों के नेत्रों को तृप्त कर सकता है, किन्तु दिल और दिमाग को ताजगी प्रदान नहीं कर सकता। दूध का सार घृत है। जिस दूध में घृत नहीं है, वह केवल नाममात्र का ही दूध है। घृत से ही दूध में पौष्टिकता रहती है। वह शरीर को शक्ति प्रदान करता है। इसी प्रकार तिल का सार तेल है। यदि तिलों में से तेल निकल जाए, इक्षु खण्ड में से रस निकल जाए, धान में से चावल निकल जाए तो वह निस्सार बन जाता है। वैसे ही साधना में से समभाव यानी सामायिक निकल जाये तो वह साधना भी निस्सार है। केवल नाममात्र की साधना है। समता के अभाव में उपासना उपहास है। साधक मायाजाल के चंगल

Upadhyaya Yashovijayaji described Samayik as the essence of the complete twelve-fold Jinvani. The essence of colorful blooming flowers is fragrance. If the flower does not have fragrance, only form, then it can only satisfy the eyes of the viewers, but it cannot provide freshness to the heart and mind. The essence of milk is ghee. Milk that does not have ghee is only milk in name. It is ghee that gives milk its nourishment. It gives strength to the body. Similarly, the essence of sesame is oil. If the oil is extracted from the sesame seeds, the juice from the sugarcane, the rice from the paddy, then it becomes useless.
