[ निशीथसूत्र
वृत्ति करता है वह चिकने कर्मों का बंध करता है, जिससे वह घोर एवं दुस्तर संसार-सागर में गिरता है ।"
"केवल विभूषा के विचारों को भी ज्ञानी, प्रवृत्ति के समान ही कर्मबन्ध एवं संसार का कारण मानते हैं । इस विभूषावृत्ति से अनेक सावद्य प्रवृत्तियाँ होती हैं । यह षट्काय-रक्षक मुनि के प्राचरण योग्य नहीं है ।"
३. दश. अ. ८ गा. ५७ में संयम के लिए विभूषावृत्ति को तालपुट विष की उपमा दी गई है ।
४. उत्तरा. अ. १६ में कहा है कि-
'जो भिक्षु विभूषा के
करनी चाहिए ।
भिक्षु विभूषा और शरीर - परिमंडन का त्याग करे तथा ब्रह्मचर्यरत भिक्षु श्रृंगार के लिए वस्त्रादि को भी धारण न करे ।'
इन आगम स्थलों से यह स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि ब्रह्मचर्य के लिये विभूषावृत्ति सर्वथा अहितकर है, कर्मबंध का कारण है तथा प्रायश्चित्त के योग्य है । अतः भिक्षु विभूषा के संकल्पों का त्याग करें अर्थात् शारीरिक शृंगार करने का एवं उपकरणों को सुन्दर दिखाने का प्रयत्न न करे । उपकरणों को संयम की और शरीर की सुरक्षा के लिए ही धारण करे एवं आवश्यक होने पर ही उनका प्रक्षालन करे ।
