[२३९ ५. सिखाने के बाद श्रद्धा एवं विवेक की परीक्षा करना, यथा
खड़े रहने, बैठने, सोने या परठने के लिये सचित्त भूमि बताकर कहना कि “यहाँ खड़े रहो, परठो इत्यादि । सचित्त स्थल देखकर वह चिंतित होता है या नहीं, इसकी परीक्षा करना ।
इसी तरह तालाब आदि की गीली भूमि में चलने, दीपक सरकाने, गर्मी में हवा करने तथा वनस्पति व त्रस जीव युक्त मार्ग में चलने का कहकर परीक्षा करना । एषणा दोष युक्त भिक्षा ग्रहण करने को कह कर परीक्षा करना ।
___ इस प्रकार अध्ययन, अर्थज्ञान, श्रद्धान, विवेक तथा परीक्षा में योग्य हो उसे उपस्थान करना चाहिये। उल्लिखित विधि से जो योग्य न बना हो उसे उपस्थापित करने पर प्रायश्चित्त आता है ।

८५. जे भिक्खू नायगेण वा अनायगेण वा उवासएण वा अणुवासएण वा अणलेण वेयावच्चं कारवेइ, कारवेंतं वा साइज्जइ ।
जो भिक्षु अयोग्य स्वजन या परजन, उपासक या अनुपासक दीक्षित भिक्षु से सेवा करवाता है या करवाने वाले का अनुमोदन करता है। (उसे गुरुचौमासी प्रायश्चित्त आता है।)
विवेचन–सेवाकार्य अनेक प्रकार के हो सकते हैं। किन्तु भाष्यकार ने केवल भिक्षाचरी की अपेक्षा से सेवाकार्य में अयोग्य का वर्णन किया है । वे चार प्रकार के हो सकते हैं, यथा
१. जिसने पिडैषणा का अध्ययन न किया हो, २. जिसकी सेवाकार्य में श्रद्धा-रुचि न हो, ३. जिसने उसका अर्थ-परमार्थ न जाना हो, ४. जो दोषों का परिहार न कर सकता हो। इस प्रकार के अयोग्य से वैयावृत्य कराने पर प्रायश्चित्त आता है।
अन्य अनेक सेवाकार्यों के लिये भी यही उचित है कि जो शारीरिक शक्ति से सक्षम हो और क्षयोपशम की अपेक्षा भी योग्य हो, उसी साधु से सेवाकार्य करवाना चाहिये । शक्ति और योग्यता से अधिक सेवाकार्य कराने पर अनेक दोषों की सम्भावना रहती है एवं सूत्रोक्त प्रायश्चित्त पाता है ।

८६. जे भिक्खू सचेले सचेलाणं मज्झे संवसइ, संवसंतं वा साइज्जइ । ८७. जे भिक्खू सचेले अचेलाणं मज्झे संवसइ, संवसंतं वा साइज्जइ । ५८. जे भिक्खू अचेले सचेलाणं मज्झे संवसइ, संवसंतं वा साइज्जइ। ८९. जे भिक्खू अचेले अचेलाणं मज्झे संवसइ, संवसंतं वा साइज्जइ ।
