थे। आज भी आचारांग के अध्ययनों में अनेक उद्देशक उपलब्ध हैं। उन २० उद्देशक के भी विषयवर्णन की अपेक्षा तीन विभाग थे-(१) लघु (२) गुरु (३) आरोपणा ।
इन तीन को प्राचारांग के २५ अध्ययन के साथ जोड़कर ही समवायांगसूत्र में २८ आचारप्रकल्प कहे हैं।
जब इसे अलग किया गया तब प्राचारांग से अलग किया हुअा होने से इसका नाम आचारप्रकल्प रखा गया । यही नाम आचार्य भद्रबाहु के समय प्रसिद्ध था, इसीलिए उन्होंने व्यवहारसूत्र में अनेकों विधान आचारप्रकल्प के नाम से किए हैं । समवायांग, प्रश्नव्याकरण आदि अंग आगमों में भी “आचारप्रकल्प" के नाम से वर्णन उपलब्ध है। आचारप्रकल्प और निशोथः नामपरिवर्तन
___ नंदीसूत्र में जो आगम गणना दी गई है, उसमें आचारप्रकल्प का नाम नहीं है, किन्तु निशीथ का नाम है और व्यवहारसूत्र में निशीथ का नाम ही नहीं किन्तु आचारप्रकल्प नाम अनेक बार है । व्यवहारसूत्र की रचना पहले हुई है और नंदीसूत्र की सैकड़ों (८००) वर्ष बाद रचना हुई है। इससे यह स्पष्ट होता है कि भद्रबाहुस्वामी के सामने यह सूत्र आचारप्रकल्प नाम से था और उनके बाद देवधिगणी तक उस सत्र का आचारप्रकल्प नाम प्रसिद्धि में नहीं रह सका किन्तु आचारांग के अध्ययन का जो मौलिक नाम निशीथ अध्ययन था, वही नाम निशीथसत्र इस रूप से प्रसिद्धि में पाया और नंदी-रचनाकार श्री देववाचक पविभूषित देवधिगणी क्षमाश्रमण ने उसी प्रसिद्ध नाम को स्थान दिया ।
तात्पर्य यह है कि प्रारम्भ में यह प्राचारांग का अध्ययन "निशीथ-अध्ययन" इस नाम से था । भद्रबाहुस्वामी के सामने प्राचारप्रकल्प या आचारप्रकल्प-अध्ययन के नाम से था और उनके बाद कभी यह निशीथसूत्र के नाम से प्रसिद्धि पाया। फिर भी व्यवहारसूत्र के मूलपाठ में आज भी प्राचारप्रकल्प के नाम से किये गये अनेक विधान उसी रूप में विद्यमान हैं और उसी के आधार पर नियुक्ति, भाष्य, टीका भी विद्यमान हैं।
नियुक्ति, भाष्य, टीका आदि व्याख्याकारों ने निशीथसूत्र को अथवा आचारांग सहित निशीथ-अध्ययन को "प्राचारप्रकल्प" नाम से ग्रहण किया है।
वैकल्पिक पांच नाम
इसे आचारांगसूत्र का अध्ययन कहो, प्राचारप्रकल्प कहो या आचारप्रकल्प-अध्ययन अथवा निशीथसूत्र कहो, सभी निशीथसूत्र के पर्यायवाची नाम हैं। इनकी संख्या पांच है, यथा
