[ Surya Prajnapti Sutra ]
We say that these two suns, moving in their orbits, are always at a distance of five yojanas, thirty-five one-eighths of a yojana, from each other, increasing or decreasing their distance, as they move in their orbits.
Who says this? We say this.
This Jambudvipa, the island of all islands and oceans, is circular in shape, with a diameter and circumference of one hundred thousand yojanas, three hundred thousand yojanas, two hundred and twenty-seven yojanas, three kosas, eighty-eight dhanus, thirteen hundred angulas, and half an angula, as per the calculations.
1. When these two suns move in their orbits, always maintaining a distance from each other, they move at a distance of ninety-nine thousand yojanas, six hundred and forty-four yojanas from each other.
When they reach the highest point of their orbit, the day is eighteen muhurtas long, and the night is twelve muhurtas long.
2. When the suns are moving outwards, in the first half of the year, they move in their orbits, maintaining a distance from each other.
When these two suns move in their orbits, maintaining a distance from each other, they move at a distance of ninety-nine thousand yojanas, six hundred and forty-nine yojanas, thirty-five one-eighths of a yojana from each other.
The day is eighteen muhurtas long, minus two one-eighths of a muhurta, and the night is twelve muhurtas long, plus two one-eighths of a muhurta.
3. When the suns are moving outwards, in the second half of the year, they move in their orbits, maintaining a distance from each other.
When these two suns move in their orbits, maintaining a distance from each other, they move at a distance of ninety-nine thousand yojanas, six hundred and fifty-one yojanas, nine one-eighths of a yojana from each other.
The day is eighteen muhurtas long, minus four one-eighths of a muhurta, and the night is twelve muhurtas long, plus four one-eighths of a muhurta.
Thus, these two suns, moving outwards, move in their orbits, maintaining a distance from each other, increasing or decreasing their distance, as they move in their orbits, always maintaining a distance of five yojanas, thirty-five one-eighths of a yojana, from each other, as they move in their orbits.
