चन्द्र-सूर्य-प्रज्ञप्ति से सम्बन्धित अर्थ
विनयादि गुण सम्पन्न शिष्यों के लिये देश-कालोपयोगी शुभफलप्रद दुर्लभ ग्रन्थ स्वाध्याय हेतु देना। यहाँ 'देश-कालोपयोगी' विशेषण विशेष ध्यान देने योग्य है।
कालिक और उत्कालिक नन्दीसूत्र में गमिक को 'उत्कालिक' और अगमिक को 'कालिक' कहा है।
दृष्टिवाद गमिक है। दृष्टिवाद का तृतीय विभाग पूर्वगत है, उसी पूर्वगत से ज्योतिषगणराज-प्रज्ञप्ति (चन्द्रप्रज्ञप्तिसूर्यप्रज्ञप्ति) का निर्वृहण किया गया है, ऐसा चन्द्रप्रज्ञप्ति की उत्थनिका की तृतीय गाथा से ज्ञात होता है।
अंग-उपांगों का एक दूसरे से संबंध है, ये सब अगमिक हैं, अत: वे सब कालिक हैं। उसी नन्दीसूत्र के अनुसार चन्द्रप्रज्ञप्ति कालिक है और सूर्यप्रज्ञप्ति उत्कालिक है।

मूल अभिन्न और अर्थ भिन्न चन्द्रप्रज्ञप्ति और सूर्यप्रज्ञप्ति के मूल सूत्रों में कितना साम्य है ? यह तो दोनों के आद्योपान्त अवलोकन से स्वतः ज्ञात हो जाता है; किन्तु चन्द्रप्रज्ञप्ति के सभी सूत्रों की चन्द्रपरक व्याख्या और सूर्यप्रज्ञप्ति के सभी सूत्रों की सूर्यपरक व्याख्या अतीत में उपलब्ध थी। यह कथन कितना यथार्थ है, कहा नहीं जा सकता है, क्योंकि ऐसा किसी टीका, नियुक्ति आदि में कहीं कहा नहीं है। यदि इस प्रकार का उल्लेख किसी टीका, नियुक्ति आदि में देखने में आया हो तो विद्वज्जन प्रकाशित करें।
एक श्लोक या एक गाथा के अनेक अर्थ असम्भव नहीं हैं। द्विसंधान, पंचसंधान, सप्तसंधान आदि काव्य वर्तमान में उपलब्ध हैं। इनमें प्रत्येक श्लोक की विभिन्न कथापरक टीकाएँ देखी जा सकती हैं। किन्तु चन्द्रप्रज्ञप्ति और सूर्यप्रज्ञप्ति के सन्दर्भ में बिना किसी प्रबल प्रमाण के भिन्नार्थ कहना उचित प्रतीत नहीं होता।
