[ Surya Prajnapti Sutra ]
1. The day consists of twelve muhurtas, and the night consists of twelve muhurtas.
2. When the sun enters, it traverses the outer circle of its mandala, moving in four directions.
As the sun traverses the outer circle of its mandala, it moves in four directions, causing two rays to illuminate the field of light, and two rays to illuminate the field of day. The mandala is divided into eighteen, thirty, and one hundred parts.
Therefore, the day consists of eighteen muhurtas, minus four parts of a muhurta. The night consists of twelve muhurtas, minus four parts of a muhurta.
3. Thus, as the sun enters, it traverses the mandalas, moving from one mandala to another. Each mandala, with its own rays, illuminates the field of light, and illuminates the field of day. The sun traverses all the mandalas, moving in four directions.
4. When the sun traverses all the outer mandalas, and all the inner mandalas, it traverses the outermost mandala, causing one hundred rays to illuminate the field of light, and one hundred rays to illuminate the field of day. The mandala is divided into eighteen, thirty, and one hundred parts.
Therefore, the day consists of eighteen muhurtas, when the sun reaches its highest point, just as the night consists of twelve muhurtas.
This is the duration of the six months, and this is the end of the six months. This is the duration of the solar year, and this is the end of the solar year.
