[९१ अरहओ अरिट्ठनेमिस्स जाव [ अंतिए मुंडे भवित्ता अगाराओ अणगारियं] पव्वइत्तए।'
'कण्हाइ!' अरहा अरिट्ठणेमी कण्हं वासुदेवं एवं वयासी
"से नूणं कण्हा! तव अयं अज्झथिए चिंतिए पत्थिए मणोगए संकप्पे समुप्पजित्थाधण्णा णं ते जालिप्पभिइकुमारा जाव पव्वइया। से नूणं कण्हा! अत्थे समत्थे?
हंता अत्थि।
तं नो खलु कण्हा! एयं भूयं वा भव्वं वा भविस्सइ वा जण्णं वासुदेवा चइत्ता हिरण्णं जाव पव्वइस्संति।
से केणटेणं भंते! एवं वुच्चइ 'न एयं भूयं वा जाव पव्वइस्संति?' 'कण्हाइ!' अरहा अरिट्ठणेमी कण्हं वासुदेवं एवं वयासी
'एवं खलु कण्हा! सव्वे वि य णं वासुदेवा पुव्वभवे निदाणकडा से एतेणद्वेणं कण्हा! एवं वुच्चइ न एयं भूयं जा पव्वइस्संति।
अरिहन्त अरिष्टनेमि से द्वारका नगरी के विनाश का कारण सुन-समझकर श्रीकृष्ण वासुदेव के मन में ऐसा विचार चिन्तन, प्रार्थित एवं मनोगत संकल्प उत्पन्न हुआ कि-वे जालि, मयालि, उवयालि, पुरिससेन, वीरसेन, प्रद्युम्न, शाम्ब, अनिरुद्ध, दृढनेमि और सत्यनेमि प्रभृति कुमार धन्य हैं जो हिरण्यादि [संपदा और धन, सैन्य, वाहन, कोष, कोष्ठागार, पुर, अन्तःपुर आदि परिजन छोड़कर तथा बहुत-सा हिरण्य, सुवर्ण, कांसा, दूष्य-वस्त्र, मणि, मोती, संख, सिला, मूंगा, लालरत्न आदि सारभूत द्रव्य आदि] देयभाग देकर, नेमिनाथ प्रभु के पास मुंडित होकर अगार को त्यागकर अनगार रूप में प्रव्रजित हो गये हैं। मैं अधन्य हूँ, अकृत-पुण्य हूं कि राज्य [कोष, कोष्ठागार, सैन्य, वाहन, नगर] अन्त:पुर और मनुष्य संबंधी कामभोगों में मूर्च्छित हूँ, इन्हें त्यागकर भगवान् नेमिनाथ के पास मुंडित होकर अनगार रूप में प्रव्रजित होने में असमर्थ हूँ।
भगवान् नेमिनाथ प्रभु ने अपने ज्ञान-बल से कृष्ण वासुदेव के मन में आये इन विचारों को जानकर आर्तध्यान में डूबे हुए कृष्ण वासुदेव से इस प्रकार कहा-"निश्चय ही हे कृष्ण! तुम्हारे मन में ऐसा विचार उत्पन्न हुआ-वे जालि, मयालि आदि कुमार धन्य हैं जिन्होंने धन वैभव एवं स्वजनों को त्यागकर मुनिव्रत ग्रहण किया और मैं अधन्य हूं, अकृतपुण्य हूं जो राज्य अन्तःपुर और मनुष्य संबंधी काम-भोगों में गृद्ध हूं। मैं प्रभू के पास प्रव्रज्या नहीं ले सकता। हे कृष्ण! क्या यह बात सही है?"
श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा- "हाँ भगवन् ! आपने जो कहा वह सभी यथार्थ है।"
प्रभु ने फिर कहा-"तो हे कृष्ण! ऐसा कभी हुआ नहीं, होता नहीं और होगा भी नहीं कि वासुदेव अपने भव में धन-धान्य-स्वर्ण आदि संपत्ति छोड़कर मुनिव्रत ले लें। वासुदेव दीक्षा लेते नहीं, ली नहीं एवं भविष्य में कभी लेंगे भी नहीं।"
श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा- 'हे भगवन् ! ऐसा क्यों कहा जाता है कि ऐसा कभी हुआ नहीं, होता नहीं और होगा भी नहीं। इसका क्या कारण है?'

This thought, contemplation, aspiration and resolve has arisen in your mind that 'Blessed are those Kshatriya princes - Jali, Mayali, Uvayali, Purisasena, Virasena, Pradyumna, Shambu, Aniruddha, Dridhanemi and Satyanemi - who, having renounced wealth, army, vehicles, treasury, storehouse, city, harem and other possessions, and a large quantity of gold, silver, copper, precious clothes, gems, pearls, conches, stones, corals and other valuable substances, have shaved off their hair, renounced the household life and adopted the life of mendicants at the feet of Lord Neminatha.'"

"And I am unfortunate and devoid of merit, being attached to the kingdom, treasury, storehouse, army, vehicles, city, harem and human pleasures, and unable to shave off my hair, renounce the household life and adopt the life of a mendicant at the feet of Lord Neminatha."

Knowing through his omniscience the thoughts that had arisen in the mind of Kanha Vasudeva who was immersed in distress, the Arhat Aristanemi said to him:

"Surely, Kanha! It is true that those Kshatriya princes - Jali, Mayali and others - have renounced wealth and family and adopted the life of mendicants, and you are unfortunate and devoid of merit, being attached to the kingdom, treasury and human pleasures, and unable to renounce the household life.

But, Kanha! It has never happened, does not happen, and will never happen that the Vasudeva renounces wealth, grain, gold and other possessions and adopts the life of a mendicant. The Vasudeva does not initiate, has not initiated, and will never initiate [the monastic life]."

Kanha asked, "Bhante! Why is it said that it has never happened, does not happen, and will never happen [that the Vasudeva adopts the life of a mendicant]? What is the reason for this?"
