[७३ हित, मित और मधुर भाषण करना चाहिए। इस प्रकार अप्रमत्त एवं सावधान होकर प्राण (विकलेन्द्रिय) भूत (वनस्पतिकाय), जीव (पंचेन्द्रियो) और सत्त्व (शेष एकेन्द्रिय) की रक्षा करके संयम का पालन करना चाहिए। इस विषय में तनिक भी प्रमाद नहीं करना चाहिए। तत्पश्चात् गजसुकुमाल ने अरिष्टनेमि अर्हत् के निकट इस प्रकार का धर्म सम्बन्धी यह उपदेश सुनकर और हृदय में धारण करके सम्यक् प्रकार से उसे अंगीकार किया। वह भगवान् की आज्ञा के अनुसार गमन करते, उसी प्रकार बैठते, यावत् सावधान रहकर अर्थात् प्रमाद और निद्रा का त्याग करके प्राणों, भूतों, जीवों और सत्वों की यतना करके संयम की आराधना करने लगे] अनगार बनकर वे गजसुकुमाल मुनि ईर्यासमिति, [भाषासमिति, एषणासमिति, आदान-भाण्डमात्रनिक्षेपणसमिति और उच्चार-प्रस्रवण-खेल-जल्ल-सिंघाण-परिस्थापनिकासमिति, एवं मन:समिति, वचनसमिति और कायसमिति का सावधानीपूर्वक पालन करने लगे। मनोगुप्ति, वचनगुप्ति और कायगुप्ति से रहने लगे। इन्द्रियों को वश में रखने वाले] गुप्तब्रह्मचारी बन कर एवं इसी निर्ग्रन्थप्रवचन को सन्मुख रख कर विचरने लगे।
'विवेचन–प्रस्तुत दो सूत्रों में श्रीकृष्ण महाराज तथा राजकुमार गजसुकुमाल का भगवान् अरिष्टनेमि के चरणों में उपस्थित होना, भगवान् का मंगलमय उपदेश सुनकर चरमशरीरी गजसुकुमाल के हृदय में वैराग्य उत्पन्न होना, फिर दीक्षित होने के लिये माता-पिता से आज्ञा प्राप्त करना, कृष्ण महाराज द्वारा तथा माता, देवकी द्वारा उन्हें दीक्षा न लेने के लिए समझाना (इस विषय में विस्तृत संवाद), गजसुकुमाल को एक दिन के लिये राज्याभिषिक्त करना, प्रव्रज्याभिषेक महोत्सव और अन्त में अनगार बनकर यथाविधि विचरण आदि अनेक विषयों का वर्णन प्रस्तुत किया गया है।
_ 'महेलियावजं'– इस पद के दो अर्थ किये जाते हैं। महिलारहित और अविवाहित। जिस का विवाह नहीं हुआ वह महिलावर्ज है। सूत्रकार ने गजसुकुमाल के जीवन को 'जहा मेहो' यह कह कर मेघकुमार के समान बताया है। ज्ञाताधर्मकथांग सूत्र' के प्रथमाध्ययन में मेघकुमार को विवाहित कहा है
और गजसुकुमाल अविवाहित थे, अत: सूत्रकार ने इस विभिन्नता को 'महेलियावज्जं' शब्द से सूचित किया है।
