तब भगवान् गौतम, जहां आनन्द श्रमणोपासक था, वहां गये ।
८३. तए णं से आणंदे समणोवासए भगवओ गोयमस्स्र तिक्खुत्तो मुद्धाणेणं पाएस वंदइ नमसइ, वंदित्ता नमंसित्ता एवं वयासी - अत्थि णं भंते! गिहिणो गिहमज्झावसंतस्य ओहिनाणं समुप्पज्जइ ?

जइ णं भंते! गिहिणो जाव (गिहमज्झावसंतस्स ओहि - नाणं ) समुप्पज्जइ, एवं खलु भंते! ममवि गिहिणो गिहमज्झावसंतस्स ओहि नाणे समुप्पण्णे--पुरत्थिमे णं लवणसमुद्दे पंच जोयणसयाई जाव (खेत्तं जाणामि पासामि एवं दक्खिणेणं पच्चत्थिमेणं य, उत्तरेणं जाव चुल्लहिमवंतं वासधरपव्वयं जाणामि पासामि, उड्डुं जाव सोहम्मं कप्पं जाणामि पासामि, अहे जाव इमीसें रयणप्पभाए पुढवीए) लोलुयच्चुयं नरयं जाणामि पासामि ।
श्रमणोपासक आनन्द ने तीन बार मस्तक झुकाकर भगवान् गौतम के चरणों में वन्दन, नमस्कार किया । वन्दन, नमस्कार कर वह यों बोला -- भगवन् ! एक गृहस्थ की भूमिका में विद्यमान मुझे भी अवधिज्ञान हुआ है, जिससे मैं पूर्व, पश्चिम तथा दक्षिण दिशा में पांच- सौ, पांच सौ योजन तक का लवणसमुद्र का क्षेत्र, उत्तर दिशा में चुल्ल हिमवान् -- वर्षधर पर्वत तक का क्षेत्र ऊर्ध्व दिशा में सौधर्म कल्प तक तथा अधोदिशा में प्रथम नारक- 9 -भूमि रत्त्र-प्रभा में लोलुपाच्युत नामक नरक तक जानता हूं, देखता हूं ।
८४. तणं से भगवं गोयमे आणंदं समणोवासयं एवं वयासी -- अत्थि णं, आणंदा ! गिहिणो जाव' समुपज्जइ । नो चेव णं एमहालए। तं णं तुमं, आणंदा! एयस्स ठाणस्स आलोएहि जाव (पडिक्कमाहि, निंदाहि गरिहाहि, विउट्टाहि, विसोहेहि अकरणताए अभुट्ठाहि अहारिहं पायच्छितं ) तवो-कम्मं पडिवज्जाहि ।

तब भगवान् गौतम ने श्रमणोपासक आनन्द से कहा--गृहस्थ को अवधि - ज्ञान उत्पन्न हो सकता है, पर इतना विशाल नहीं। इसलिए आनन्द ! तुम इस स्थान की इस मृषावाद रूप स्थिति या प्रवृत्ति की आलोचना करो, (प्रतिक्रमण करो- पुनः शुद्ध अन्तःस्थिति में लौटो, इस प्रवृत्ति की निन्दा करो, गर्हा करो -- आन्तरिक खेद अनुभव करो, इसे वित्रोटित करो - विच्छिन्न करो या मिटाओ, इस अकरणता या अकार्य का विशोधन करो इससे जनित दोष का परिमार्जन करो, यथोचित प्रायश्चित्त के लिए अभ्युत्थित - - उद्यत हो जाओ) तदर्थ तप:कर्म स्वीकार करो ।
८५. तए णं से आणंदे समणोवासए भगवं गोयमं एवं वयासी-अत्थि णं, भंते! जिण-वयणे सताणं, तच्चाणं तहियाणं, सब्भूयाणं भावाणं आलोइज्जइ जाव पडिक्कमिज्ज, निंदिज्जइ, गरिहिज्जइ, विउट्टिज्जइ, विसोहिज्जइ अकरणयाए, अब्भुट्ठिज्जइ अहारिहं पारच्छित्तं देखें सूत्र संख्या ८३ ।

"Bhagavan! If the knowledge of Avadhi arises in a householder, then Bhagavan! I, too, have attained the knowledge of Avadhi while living in a household. I know and see the salt sea, five hundred yojanas in each direction, east, west, and south, and the Chulla Himavan Varshadhara mountain in the north, the Saudharma Kalpa in the upper direction, and the Lolupacyuta Naraka in the lower direction, which is the first Naraka-9-bhoomi Rattra-Prabha."

You should criticize, condemn, and censure this situation or tendency of this place, (perform Pratikramana - return to a pure inner state, condemn this tendency, censure it, feel inner regret, shatter it - break it or erase it, purify this non-action or inaction, cleanse the faults arising from it, become ready for appropriate atonement) and accept the Tapas-Karma for that purpose."

85. Then that Anand, the Shramanopasaka, said to the Bhagavan Gautama, "Bhagavan! In the words of the Jina, the truth, the right conduct, the right knowledge, and the right faith, should be criticized, condemned, and censured, shattered, purified, cleansed of non-action, and become ready for atonement. See Sutra number 83."
