प्रारम्भ में आचारांग आदि नामक्रमानुसार शास्त्रों को प्रकाशित करने का विचार किया गया था, किन्तु ऐसा अनुभव हुआ कि भगवती जैसे विशाल आगम का संपादन अनुवाद होने आदि में बहुत समय लगेगा और तब तक अन्य आगमों के प्रकाशन को रोक रखने से समय भी अधिक लगेगा और पाठकवर्ग को सैद्धान्तिक बोध कराने के लिए योजना प्रारम्भ की है, वह उद्देश्य भी पूरा होने में विलम्ब होगा तथा यथाशीघ्र शुभ कार्य को सम्पन्न करना चाहिए। अत: यह निर्णय हुआ कि जो-जो शास्त्र होते जायें, उन्हें ही प्रकाशित कर दिया जाये।
___ जैसे-जैसे आगम ग्रन्थ प्रकाशित होते गये, वैसे-वैसे पाठकवर्ग भी विस्तृत होता गया एवं अनेक विश्वविद्यालयों के पाठ्यक्रमों में भी इन ग्रन्थों को निर्धारित किया गया। अतः पुनः यह निश्चय किया गया कि प्रथम तीन संस्करणो के अप्राप्य हो जाने पर चतुर्थ संस्करण प्रकाशित किया जावें, जिससे सभी पाठकों को पूरी आगमबत्तीसी सदैव उपलब्ध होती रहे । एतदर्थ इस निर्णयानुसार चतुर्थ संस्करण प्रकाशित हो रहा है।
___अनेक प्रबुद्ध संतों, विद्वानों और समाज ने प्रस्तुत प्रकाशनों की प्रशंसा करके हमारे उत्साह का संवर्धन किया है और सहयोग दिया है, उसके लिए आभारी हैं तथा पाठकों से अपेक्षा है कि आगम साहित्य का अध्ययन करके जिनवाणी के प्रचार-प्रसार में सहयोगी बनें।
