[ समवायाङ्गसूत्र लालचन्दन के सरस सुगन्धित लेप से उन भवनों की भित्तियों पर पांचों अंगुलियों युक्त हस्ततल (हाथ) अंकित हैं। इसी प्रकार भवनों की सीढ़ियों पर भी गोशीर्षचन्दन और लालचन्दन के रस से पांचों अंगुलियों के हस्ततल अंकित हैं। वे भवन कालागुरु, प्रधान कुन्दरु और तुरुष्क (लोभान) युक्त धूप के जलते रहने से मघमघायमान, सुगन्धित और सुन्दरता से अभिराम ( मनोहर) हैं। वहां सुगन्धित अगरबत्तियां जल रही हैं। वे भवन आकाश के समान स्वच्छ हैं, स्फटिक के समान कान्तियुक्त हैं, अत्यन्त चिकने हैं, घिसे हुए हैं, पॉलिश किये हुए हैं, नीरज (रज - धूलि से रहित हैं) निर्मल हैं, अन्धकार - रहित हैं, विशुद्ध (निष्कलंक) हैं, प्रभा - युक्त हैं, मरीचियों (किरणों से ) युक्त हैं, उद्योत (शीतल प्रकाश) से युक्त हैं, मन को प्रसन्न करने वाले हैं । दर्शनीय (देखने के योग्य) हैं, अभिरूप (कान्त, सुन्दर ) हैं और प्रतिरूप ( रमणीय) हैं।
जिस प्रकार से असुरकुमारों के भवनों का वर्णन किया गया है, उसी प्रकार नागकुमार आदि शेष भवनवासी देवों के भवनों का भी वर्णन जहां जैसा घटित और उपयुक्त हो, वैसा करना चाहिए। तथा ऊपर कही गई गाथाओं से जिसके जितने भवन बताये गये हैं, उनका वैसा ही वर्णन करना चाहिए।
५८७ - केवइया णं भंते! पुढविकाइयावासा पण्णत्ता? गोयमा! असंखेज्जा पुढविकाइया वासा पण्णत्ता। एवं जाव मणुस्स त्ति ।
भगवन्! पृथिवीकायिक जीवों के आवास कितने कहे गये हैं?
गौतम! पृथिवीकायिक जीवों के असंख्यात आवास कहे गये हैं । इसी प्रकार जलकायिक जीवों से लेकर यावत् मनुष्यों तक के जानना चाहिए।
विवेचन - गर्भज मनुष्यों के आवास तो संख्यात ही होते हैं तथा सम्मूच्छिम मनुष्यों के आवास नहीं होते हैं किन्तु प्रत्येक शरीर में एक एक जीव होने से वे असंख्यात हैं, इतना विशेष जानना चाहिए। ५८८ – केवइया णं भंते वाणमंतरावासा पण्णत्ता ? गोयमा ! इमीसे णं रयणप्पभाए पुढवीए रयणामयस्स कंडस्स-जोयणसहस्स - बाहल्लस्स उवरिं एगं जोयणसयं ओगाहेत्ता हेट्ठ चेगं जोयणसयं वज्जेत्ता मज्झे अट्ठसु जोयणसएस एत्थ णं वाणमंतराणं देवाणं तिरियमसंखेज्जा भोमेज्जा नगरावाससयसहस्सा पण्णत्ता । ते णं भोमेज्जा नगरा बाहिं वट्टा अंतो चउरंसा । एवं जहा भवणवासीणं तहेव णेयव्वा । णवरं पडागमालाउला सुरम्मा पासाईया दरिसणिज्जा अभिरुवा पडिरूवा ।
भगवन् ! वानव्यन्तरों के आवास कितने कहे गये हैं?
गौतम ! इस रत्नप्रभा पृथिवी के एक हजार योजन मोटे रत्नमय कांड के एक सौ योजन ऊपर से अवगाहन कर और एक सौ योजन नीचे के भाग को छोड़ कर मध्य के आठ सौ योजनों में वानव्यन्तर देवों के तिरछे फैले हुए असंख्यात लाख भौमेयक नगरावास कहे गये हैं । वे भौमेयक नगर बाहर गोल और भीतर चौकोर हैं । इस प्रकार जैसा भवनवासी देवों के भवनों का वर्णन किया गया है, वैसा ही वर्णन वानव्यन्तर देवों के भवनों का जानना चाहिए। केवल इतनी विशेषता है कि ये पताका- मालाओं से व्याप्त हैं । यावत् सुरम्य हैं, मनः को प्रसन्न करने वाले हैं, दर्शनीय हैं, अभिरूप हैं और प्रतिरूप हैं।

**Answer:** O Gautama! On this earth, which is radiant with gems, there is a gem-like *kanda* (core) that is a thousand yojanas thick. Above this *kanda*, for a hundred yojanas, and below it, for a hundred yojanas, there are countless millions of *bhoameyaka* cities, the abodes of the *vanavyantara* gods, in the middle eight hundred yojanas. These *bhoameyaka* cities are round on the outside and square on the inside. Just as the mansions of the *bhavana-vaasi* gods have been described, so too should the mansions of the *vanavyantara* gods be described. The only difference is that these mansions are adorned with flags and garlands. They are beautiful, pleasing to the mind, worth seeing, beautiful, and charming.
