अंग्रेजों में मूर्तिपूजा

Soon after Christianity had achieved its triumph, the principle which has assisted it, began to corrupt. It became a Paganism. Patron saints assumed the offices of household Gods. St. George took the place of Mars. St. Elmo consoled the mariner for the loss of Castor and Pullut. The virgin mother and Cicelia succeeded to Venus and the Muses.
Reformers have often made a stand against these feelings but never with more than apparent and partial success. The man who demolished the images in cathedrals have not always been able to demolish these which were enshrined to their minds.
"अर्थात् नैयायिक भले ही इस बाबत में हलका संवाद करें पर जन समुदाय को तो मूर्तियों की जरूरत होगी ही । सब जमानों में समस्त प्रजाओं की मूर्तिपूजा की तरफ झुकावट रही है और इसका कोई दूसरे अभिप्राय पर खुलासा नहीं हो सकता । ग्रीस देश वासियों के लिए यह मानने के बहुत कारण हैं कि वे पहिले कोई एक दृश्य देव की पूजा करते थे । फिर भी पूजा भक्ति के लिए किसी एक अव्यक्त वस्तु की आवश्यक्ता ने थोड़ी ही सदियों में असंख्य देवी देवताओं का एक मण्डल खड़ा कर दिया, इसी तरह प्राचीन ईरानो ( पारसी ) भी जगत्
