THE STONE SLAB
10. Under this Ashoka tree and a little closer to its trunk there are was a large stone slab installed on a sand platform. Its length, width and height were equal (it was cubical in shape). It had a black hue like that of lampblack, dark clouds, sword, blue lotus, et Balaram's robe, sky, hair, room filled with collyrium, khanjan bird, buffalo-horn, rishtak gem, rose-apple, veeyak plant, stalk of san flower (the plant Cannabis sativa), heap of leaves of blue lotus and alsi (linseed) flower. Its colour was like that of blue sapphire, touchstone, black leather belt and a bunch of eye-pupils.
Its surface was very smooth. It had eight corners. It had a mirror-like polish. A variety of figures were engraved on it. These or included wolves, bulls, horses, human beings, crocodiles, birds, snakes, kinnars (lower gods), rurus, sarabhs (octopuses), chamars (yaks), elephants, forest creepers and lotus creepers. Like chamois leather, softest cotton, Bura plant, fresh butter and Aak fibre, it was extremely soft to touch. In appearance it was like a throne. ११. (क) तत्थ णं चंपाए णयरीए कूणिए णामं राया परिवसइ। ___ महयाहिमवंत-महंतमलय-मंदर-महिंदसारे, अच्वंतविसुद्ध-दीहरायकुलवंससुप्पसूए, णिरंतरं रायलक्खणविराइयंगमंगे, बहुजण-बहुमाणपूइए, सव्वगुणसमिद्धे, खत्तिए, मुइए, मुद्धाहिसित्ते, माउपिउसुजाए।
११. (क) उस चम्पा नगरी का राजा कूणिक था, जो वहाँ निवास करता था।
वह कूणिक राजा महाहिमवान् पर्वत के समान महान् तथा मलय, मेरु एवं महेन्द्र पर्वतों के समान अनेक विशिष्टता लिए हुए था। वह अत्यन्त विशुद्ध-निर्दोष, प्राचीन राजवंश में उत्पन्न हुआ था। उसके सभी अंग राजा के योग्य लक्षणों से शोभित थे। वह बहुत लोगों द्वारा अति सम्मानित और पूजित था। वह नीति, शौर्य आदि सर्वगुण समृद्ध था। जनता को आक्रमण तथा संकट से बचाने वाला क्षत्रिय था। वह सदा मुदित-प्रसन्न रहता था। अपनी पैतृक परम्परा द्वारा एवं आज्ञानुवर्ती अन्य बहुत से राजाओं द्वारा उसका मूर्द्धाभिषेकराज्याभिषेक या राजतिलक हुआ था। वह उत्तम माता-पिता का सुजात-आज्ञापालक पुत्र था।
