(20) Like a lion they were invincible to pain or torments. (21) In enduring heat, cold and other favourable and unfavourable conditions they were like
earth. (22) Like flames of a pyre saturated with butter they @ were ever glowing with the fire of knowledge and austerities.
विवेचन-ऐसा माना जाता है, भारण्ड पक्षी एक विशालकाय विशिष्ट बली पक्षी होता है। उसके एक शरीर, दो सिर, दो आँखें तथा तीन पैर होते हैं। उसकी दोनों ग्रीवाएँ-(मुख) अलग-अलग होती हैं। उसे अपने जीवन-निर्वाह हेतु खानपान आदि क्रियाओं में अत्यन्त प्रमादरहित या जागरूक रहना होता है। मुनि को भारंड पक्षी की तरह सदा जागरूक व अन्तर्मुख रहना चाहिए।
Elaboration—It is said that Bharand, a mythical bird of giant proportions, has one body, two heads, two eyes and three legs. The two heads are on separate necks. For sustenance it has to be extremely alert and selfish in finding and collecting food. An ascetic should always be as alert and introvert as a Bharand bird. प्रतिबंध-मुक्त अणगार
२८. नत्थि णं तेसि णं भगवंताणं कत्थइ पडिबंधे भवइ। से य पडिबंधे चउबिहे पण्णत्ते, तं जहा-दव्वओ, खेत्तओ, कालओ, भावओ।
१. दबओ णं सचित्ताचित्तमीसिएसु दव्वेसु। २. खेत्तओ गामे वा णयरे वा रण्णे वा खेत्ते वा खले वा घरे वा अंगणे वा। ३. कालओ समए वा, आवलियाए वा, जाव (आणापाणुए वा थोवे वा लवे वा मुहुत्ते वा अहोरत्ते वा पक्खे वा मासे वा) अयणे वा, अण्णयरे वा दीहकालसंजोगे। ४. भावओ कोहे वा मायाए वा लोहे वा भए वा हासे वा। एवं तेसिं णं भवइ।
२८. श्रमण भगवान महावीर के उन श्रमण भगवंतों के किसी प्रकार का प्रतिबन्धरुकावट या आसक्ति का बंधन नहीं था।
प्रतिबन्ध चार प्रकार का कहा है-द्रव्य की अपेक्षा से, क्षेत्र की अपेक्षा से, काल की अपेक्षा से तथा भाव की अपेक्षा से।
(१) द्रव्य की अपेक्षा से सचित्त, अचित्त तथा मिश्रित द्रव्यों में, (२) क्षेत्र की अपेक्षा से गाँव, नगर, खेत, खलिहान, घर तथा आँगन में, (३) काल की अपेक्षा से समय आवलिका, असंख्यात
