तथा भवनपति, वान व्यन्तर, ज्योतिष और वैमानिक देवों के समूह भी अत्यधिक उत्कण्ठा से एकत्रित हो गए तब श्री भगवान् ने परम पराक्रम से उपस्थित श्रोताओं को श्रुत और चारित्र धर्म की कथा सुनाई । उन्होंने प्रत्येक द्रव्य को उत्पाद, व्यय और ध्रौव्य युक्त 'सिद्ध करते हुए कर्म-प्रकृतियों का वर्णन किया तथा आश्रव और संवर का वर्णन कर निर्जरा और मोक्ष का वर्णन किया, जिसका ज्ञान कर जीव मोक्ष-मार्ग में प्रवृत्त हो जाय । । इस धर्म-कथा का पूर्ण विवरण 'औपपातिकसूत्र' से जानना चाहिए ।
उपस्थित परिषद् श्री भगवान् के मुख से धर्म-कथा सुनकर अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हुई और यथा शक्ति धर्म-नियमों को ग्रहण करने के लिए उद्यत हो गई और श्री श्रमण भगवान् महावीर स्वामी की हृदय से स्तुति करती हुई अपने-अपने घर को वापिस चली गई। उनके साथ-साथ महाराजा श्रेणिक और चेल्लणादेवी भी भगवान् की स्तुति करते हुए अपने राज-भवन की ओर लौट गये ।
तदनु क्या हुआ ? अब सूत्रकार इसी विषय में कहते हैं:
तत्थेगइयाणं निग्गंथाणं निग्गंथीणं य सेणियं रायं चेल्लणं च देविं पासित्ता णं इमे एयारूवे अज्झत्थिते जाव संकप्पे समुप्पज्जित्था ।
तत्रैकैकेषां निर्ग्रन्थानां निर्ग्रन्थीनाञ्च श्रेणिकं राजानं चेल्लणां देवीं च दृष्ट्वा नु अयमेतद्रूपाऽध्यात्मिको यावत्संकल्पः समुदपद्यत ।
पदार्थान्वयः-तत्थ-वहां पर एगइयाणं-कई निग्गंथाणं-निर्ग्रन्थ य-और निग्गंथीणं-निर्ग्रन्थियों के चित्त में सेणियं-श्रेणिक रायं-राजा को च-और चेल्लणं-चेल्लणा, देवि-देवी को पासित्ता-देखकर णं-वाक्यालङ्कार के लिए. है इमे-यह एयारूवे-इस प्रकार का अज्झत्थिते-आध्यात्मिक जाव-यावत् संकप्पे-संकल्प समुपज्जेत्था-उत्पन्न हुआ ।
मूलार्थ-उस समय कई निर्ग्रन्थ और निर्ग्रन्थियों के चित्त में श्रेणिक राजा और चेल्लणादेवी को देखकर यह आध्यात्मिक संकल्प उत्पन्न हुआ।

And so, the group of Bhavanpati, Van Vyantar, Jyotish and Vaimanik Devas also gathered with great eagerness. Then, Sri Bhagwan, with supreme power, narrated the story of Shruta and Charitra Dharma to the assembled listeners. He described the Karma-Prakritis, proving each Dravya to be endowed with Utpada, Vyaya and Dhrauvya. He also described Ashrava and Sanvara, and explained Nirjara and Moksha, the knowledge of which would lead the Jiva towards the path of Moksha. The complete details of this Dharma-Katha should be known from the 'Aupapatik Sutra'.

The assembled council was extremely delighted to hear the Dharma-Katha from the mouth of Sri Bhagwan. They became eager to accept the Dharma-Niyamas as per their capacity and, praising Sri Shraman Bhagwan Mahavira Swami from their hearts, returned to their respective homes. **Tatraikaikeshaṁ Nirgranthānaṁ Nirgranthīnaṁ Ca Shreṇikaṁ Rājānaṁ Chellaṇaṁ Devīṁ Ca Dṛṣṭvā Nu Ayametadrupā'dhyātmiko Yāvat Sankalpaḥ Samudapadayat.**

**Padyarthānwaya:** Tattha - there, Egaiyaanaṁ - many, Nigganthaanaṁ - Nirgrantha, Ya - and, Nigganthiinaṁ - Nirgranthis, Chitta meṁ - in the minds, Seṇiyaṁ - Shrenik, Raayaṁ - Raja, Cha - and, Chellaṇaṁ - Chellana, Deviṁ - Devi, Pasitta - seeing, ṇaṁ - for Vakyaalankara, Hai - is, Ime - this, Eyāruve - kind of, Ajjaṭṭhite - spiritual, Jāva - until, Sankappe - Sankalpa, Samuppanjitthā - arose.

**Mūlārtha:** At that time, in the minds of many Nirgrantha and Nirgranthis, seeing Shrenik Raja and Chellanadavi, this spiritual Sankalpa arose.
