नवमी दशा
सूत्र में 'नो तप्पइ' पद आया है । उसका अर्थ यह है 'विनयाहारो-पध्यादिभिर्न प्रत्युपकरोति' अर्थात् विनय, आहार और उपधियों (वस्त्र आदि उपकरणों) से उनकी सेवा नहीं करता ।
अब सूत्रकार तेईसवें स्थान में अहंकार का वर्णन करते हैं :अबहुस्सुए य जे केई सुएण पविकत्थइ । सज्झाय-वायं वयइ महामोहं पकुव्वइ ।।२३।। अबहुश्रुतश्च यः कश्चित् श्रुतेन प्रविकत्थते । स्वाध्याय-वादं वदति महामोहं प्रकुरुते ।।२३।।
पदार्थान्वयः-जे-जो केई-कोई अबहुस्सुए-अबहुश्रुत है य-और सुएणं-श्रुत से पविकत्थइ-अपनी आत्मा की प्रशंसा करता है और सज्झाय-वायं-स्वाध्याय-वाद वयइ-बोलता है वह महामोह-महा-मोहनीय कर्म की पकुव्वइ-उपार्जना करता है |
मूलार्थ-जो कोई वास्तव में अबहुश्रुत है, किन्तु जनता में अपने आप को बहुश्रुत प्रख्यात करता है और कहता है कि मैं शुद्ध पाठ पढ़ता हूं, वह महा-मोहनीय कर्म की उपार्जना करता है ।
टीका-इस सूत्र में मिथ्या अभिमान के विषय में वर्णन किया गया है । जो व्यक्ति वास्तव में बहुश्रुत नहीं है किन्तु जनता में अपनी प्रसिद्धि के लिए कहता फिरता है कि मैं बहुश्रुत हूं तथा अपने सम्प्रदाय का अनुयोगाचार्य भी मैं ही हूं और मेरे समान शुद्ध पाठ करने वाला और कोई है ही नहीं । इस प्रकार स्वाध्याय के विषय में भी अपनी झूठी प्रशंसा करता है वह महा-मोहनीय कर्म के बन्धन में आता है । एक तो वह झूठ बोलता है दूसरे जनता की आंखों में धूल झोंकना चाहता है अतः उक्त कर्म से उसका बचाव ही नहीं ।
अब सूत्रकार चौबीसवें स्थान में तप के विषय में कहते हैं:अतवस्सीए जे केई तवेण पविकत्थइ । सव्वलोय-परे तेणे महामोहं पकुव्वइ ।।२४।।
