मूलार्थ - जो अग्नि जलाकर बहुत से लोगों को मार्गादि स्थान में घेर कर धूम से मारता है वह महा-मोहनीय कर्म के बन्धन में आ जाता है । टीका - इस सूत्र में भी त्रस - प्राणि-हिंसा - जनित महा- मोहनीय कर्म - बन्धन का वर्णन किया गया है जो व्यक्ति बहुत से लोगों को किसी मण्डप आदि स्थान में घेर कर चारों ओर से अग्नि जलाकर धूम से उनकी हिंसा करता है वह महा - मोहनीय कर्म का उपार्जन करता है । धूम से त्रस प्राणियों की हिंसा करना एक अत्यन्त निर्दयता-पूर्ण कर्म है । क्योंकि इससे प्राणी का दम घुट जाता है और उसका बड़े कष्ट से प्राण निकलता है । इस प्रकार जीवों की हिंसा करने वाला एक अत्यन्त पाप - पूर्ण और अज्ञान -प्रद कर्म के बन्धन में आ जाता है और इसके कारण उसको असंख्य काल तक दुःख भोगना पड़ता है ।
यद्यपि प्रचण्ड अग्नि से अन्य जीवों की भी हिंसा होती है किन्तु मारने वाले के भाव उस समय केवल उन्हीं के मारने के होते हैं जिनको उसने घेरा हुआ है । अतः उन जीवों की हत्या ही उस समय उसके लिए महा- मोहनीय कर्म का मुख्य कारण है । 'समवायाङ्ग सूत्र' में इस स्थान को चतुर्थ स्थान माना गया है ।
अब सूत्रकार चतुर्थ स्थान का विषय कहते हैं :
सीसम्म जो पहणइ उत्तमंगम्मि चेयसा ।
विभज्ज मत्थयं फाले महामोहं पकुव्वइ ।।४।।
शीर्षे यः प्रहरति उत्तमाङ्गे चेतसा ।
विभज्य मस्तकं स्फोटयति महामोहं प्रकुरुते ||४||

पदार्थान्वयः - जो-जो सीसम्मि- शिर पर चेयसा- दुष्ट चित्त से उत्तमं गम्मि - शिर को उत्तमाङ्गे जान कर (इस पर प्रहार करने से मृत्यु अवश्य हो जायगी ऐसा विचार कर) पहणइ - प्रहार करता है और मत्थयं - मस्तक को विभज्ज-फोड़ कर फाले - विदारण करता है वह महामोह - महा- मोहनीय कर्म पकुव्वइ - उपार्जन करता है ।
