इस लेख से स्पष्ट प्रतीत होता है कि श्री भगवान् की बहत्तर वर्ष की आयु हुई ।
यदि कोई पूछे कि 'उत्तराफाल्गुनी' के स्थान पर 'हत्थोत्तरा' क्यों लिखा गया है तो समाधान में कहना चाहिए “हस्तादुत्तरस्यां दिशि वर्तमानत्वात्, हस्त उत्तरो वा यासां ताः हस्तोत्तराः-उत्तराफाल्गुन्यः” अर्थात् हस्त से पूर्व और चन्द्र के साथ उत्तर दिशा में योग जोड़ने से उत्तराफाल्गुनी का नाम ही 'हस्तोत्तरा' है, 'अर्द्धमागधी' कोश में भी लिखा है:
हत्थुत्तरा-स्त्री० (हस्तोत्तरा) उत्तराफाल्गुनी नक्षत्र जो हस्त नक्षत्र के बाद आता है, समय-भाषा में उत्तराफाल्गुनी के स्थान पर 'हस्तोत्तरा' ही प्रयुक्त होता था ।
इस प्रकार इस दशा में श्री वीर प्रभु का संक्षेप से जीवन का दिग्दर्शन कराया गया है । विस्तार पूर्वक जीवन-चरित्र अन्य जैन ग्रन्थों से जानना चाहिए । प्रत्येक मुनि को 'पर्युषणा कल्प' में रहते हुए उचित वृत्ति के अनुसार अपना जीवन व्यतीत करना चाहिए, जिससे सम्यग्-दर्शन, सम्यक-ज्ञान और सम्यक्-चरित्र की आराधना करते हुए निर्वाण-पद की प्राप्ति हो सके । ___ इस प्रकार श्री सुधा स्वामी श्री जम्बू स्वामी से कहते हैं “हे जम्बू ! जिस प्रकार मैंने श्री श्रमण भगवान् महावीर स्वामी जी के मुख से इस दशा का अर्थ श्रवण किया है, उसी प्रकार तुम से कहा है । अपनी बुद्धि से मैंने कुछ नहीं कहा ।"
