इसी आशय को लेकर और इसी अध्याय के आधार पर 'कल्पसूत्र' का निर्माण किया गया है और 'आचाराङ्ग' के पन्द्रहवें अध्याय में भी इसी विषय का वर्णन किया गया है । श्री भगवान् तीस वर्ष से कुछ कम केवली के पर्याय में रहे और पूरे बहत्तर वर्ष की आयु भोग कर निर्वाण-पद को प्राप्त हुए ।
यहां शङ्का होती है कि आषाढ़ शुदि षष्ठी को गर्भ-प्रवेश, चैत्र शुदि त्रयोदशी को । जन्म और कार्तिकी अमावास्या को निर्वाण हुआ इससे बहत्तर वर्ष की आयु तो सिद्ध नहीं होती फिर यह क्योंकर मान लिया जाय कि श्री भगवान् की बहत्तर वर्ष की ही आयु हुई ? इसके समाधान में मुझे एक हस्त-लिखित पत्र प्राप्त हुआ है । वह मिश्रित भाषा में लिखा हुआ है । उसमें यह विषय बिलकुल स्पष्ट किया है । पाठकों की सुविधा और निश्चय के लिए उसकी प्रतिकृति (नकल) यहां दी जाती है :
"श्री भगवान् वीर वर्द्ध मान स्वामी रो आयू ७२ बरस कह्यो । आसाढ सुदी ६ गर्भ कल्याणक थयो, कातिग वदी १५ निर्वाण कल्याणक थयो तो ७२ बरस किम आया । तिणरो विचार । आउषो गर्भ दिन थी गिणवो सिधांत में कह्यो छै । अने आदित्य संवत्सर । थकी आयु गिणीए । 'आइच्चेण य आय' इति पाठ ज्योतिष्करंड सिधान्त नो वचन छै । अने कल्याणिक स्थिति ऋतु संवत्सर लेखै लेवी । इमपिण ज्योतिष्करंड में कह्यो छइ । हिवइ आदित्य संवत्सर दिन ३६६ होइ, ऋतु संवत्सर दिन ३६० होइ, चन्द्र संवत्सर दिन । ३६४ होइ । अनइ ५ वरसे एक युग होइ, आदित्य संवत्सर रा एक जुग मांहिं १८३० दिन होइ, अने ऋतु संवत्सर रा १८०० दिन होइ, तिणें आदित्य संवत्सर रा जुग मांही १ मास थाकता ऋतु संवत्सर रो युग लागे । हिवे ऋतु संवत्सर रा चौथा मास ग्रीष्म काल मांहि आसाढ सुदि ६ दिन चवन कल्याण हुवो, इहां थी आदित्य संवच्छर रै लेषे ७२ वरषे संवच्छर रा कातिग वदी अमावस्य दिने निर्वाण पोहता ते इम ७० वरषे १४ युग हुवा, ते ऋतु संवच्छर रे १४ युगारे लेषै १४ मास वधता ऋतु संवत्सर थी आसाढ सुदि ६ थी १४ मासे भाद्रवा सुदि ६ हुई, पिण आदित्य संवत्सर पूर्ण होता १ मास उरे ऋतु संवत्सर लागै, सो पूठे लिष्यो भादवा सुदि ६ ने लेषइ आसु सुदि ६ हुई, हिवे इहां थी दुजे चन्द्र संवत्सरे निर्वाण हुवो, ते 'दुच्चे चंद संवच्छरे' ए कल्प सूत्र नो पाठ छै, इहां चंद्र संवच्छर रा ३६४ दिन हुवे, एह थी १२ दिन आदित्य संवच्छर पूर्णति वारै २ चंद्र संवच्छरना २४ दिन वधता लेण ते आसु सुदी ६ थी, २४ दिने कातिग वदि अमावस्य हूई, ते अमावस्यें निर्वाण इति । ७२ बरस आयु समाधान इति ।"
