अष्टमी दशा
से युक्त भगवान् होते हैं । किन्तु यदि अर्क (सूर्य) की उपमा दी जावे तो वह भी भगवान् का विशेषण बन सकता है । 'मतुप्' प्रत्यय इससे होता ही नहीं है ।
कोई-२ श्री भगवान महावीर स्वामी के छ: कल्याणक मानते हैं । उनका कथन है कि भगवान् का गर्भ संहरण भी उत्तराफाल्गुनी नक्षत्र में ही हुआ था । अतः यह भी कल्याणक ही है । किन्तु उनका यह कथन युक्ति-संगत नहीं है, क्योंकि यदि इस प्रकार माना जाय तो श्री ऋषभदेव भगवान् के भी छ: ही कल्याणक माने जाएंगे जैसे 'पंच उत्तरासाढे अभीइ छटे होत्था' इस सूत्र से स्पष्ट प्रतीत होता है । जिस प्रकार नक्षत्र की समता से राज्याभिषेक भी ग्रहण किया गया है ठीक उसी प्रकार इस स्थान पर भी नक्षत्र की समता से गर्भ-संहरण का भी पाठ किया गया है । अतः जिस प्रकार श्री ऋषभदेव भगवान् के छः कल्याणक नहीं माने जाते इसी प्रकार श्री श्रमण भगवान् महावीर स्वामी के भी छः कल्याणक नहीं माने जा सकते । दूसरे में जो बात नीच गोत्र-कर्म के प्रभाव से संसार में ही आश्चर्य की दृष्टि से देखी जाती है, वह भला कल्याणक-रूप किस प्रकार मानी जा सकती है, तथा जिस बात को शास्त्रकार आश्चर्य रूप मानते हैं उसको यदि जनता भी विस्मय की दृष्टि से देखे तो इसमें आश्चर्य ही कौन सा है । अतः इस कथन में अधिक प्रयत्न-शील होना ठीक नहीं है । अतः यह सिद्ध हआ कि श्री भगवान के पांच ही कल्याणक मानने युक्ति-संगत हैं । जैसे-(१) आषाढ़ शुदि षष्ठी को गर्भ में आना (२) चैत्र शुदि त्रयोदशी को जन्म (३) प्रव्रज्या-गहण (४) मार्गशीर्ष कृष्णा दशमी को केवल ज्ञान और (५) कार्तिकी अमावस्या को मोक्ष । इस सूत्र में सूत्र-कर्ता ने इस प्रकार संक्षेप में श्री भगवान् महावीर स्वामी की सारी जीवन-यात्रा का कथन कर दिया है । जैसे :
(१) गर्भ में आने से सब गर्भाधान आदि संस्कारों के विषय में जानना चाहिए । (२) जन्म होने से जन्म की महिमा का सम्पूर्ण विषय जानना चाहिए । (३) दीक्षा से दीक्षा तक के सम्पूर्ण जीवन का वृत्तान्त जानना चाहिए ।
(४) केवल ज्ञान से सारी साधु-वृत्ति और श्री भगवान् की विहार चर्या आदि के ठीक होने के अनन्तर केवल ज्ञान की प्राप्ति के विषय में जानना चाहिए ।
(५) निर्वाण से केवल ज्ञान से लेकर निर्वाण-पद की प्राप्ति पर्यन्त सारी चर्या जाननी चाहिए । कहने का तात्पर्य यह है कि इन पांच कल्याणकों में श्री श्रमण भगवान् महावीर स्वामी का सारा जीवन-चरित्र सूत्र रूप से वर्णन किया गया है ।

(5) From **nirvana**, one should know the entire conduct from **Keval Jnana** to the attainment of **nirvana pad**.
