यह प्रश्न हो सकता है कि यदि वह व्यक्ति शिष्य का ही परिचित हो और उससे ही वार्तालाप करने लगे तो उस समय को क्या करना चाहिए । उत्तर में कहा जा सकता है कि उस समय यह भी शिष्य को गुरु की आज्ञा से ही उससे बातचीत करनी चाहिए; क्योंकि ऐसा करने से उस व्यक्ति को भी उस (शिष्य) के विनय, सभ्यता और योग्यता का परिचय मिल जाएगा ।
तृतीय दशा
अब सूत्रकार वचन के न ग्रहण करने की आशातना का वर्णन करते हैं:

सेहे रायणियस्स राओ वा वियाले वा वाहरमाणस्स अज्जो सुत्ता के जागरा तत्थ सेहे जागरमाणे रायणियस्स अपडिसुणेत्ता भवइ आसायणा सेहस्स ||१३||
शैक्षो रात्निकस्य रात्रौ वा विकाले व्याहरतः "हे आर्याः ! के सुप्ताः के जाग्रति" तत्र, जाग्रदपि रात्निकस्याप्रतिश्रोता भवत्याशातना शैक्षस्य ।।१३।।
पदार्थान्वयः - सेहे - शिष्य रायणियस्स - रत्नाकर के राओ - रात्रि में वा अथवा वियाले वा - विकाल में वाहरमाणस्स - बुलाने पर जैसे- "अज्जो - हे आर्यो ! के कौन-कौन सुत्ता-सोए हुए हैं और के - कौन - २ जागरा - जागते हैं" तत्थ - वहां सेहे - शिष्य जागरमाणे - जागते हुए भी रायणिस्स - रत्नाकर के वचन को अपडिसुणेत्ता - सुनता नहीं है तो सेहस्स-शिष्य को आसाणा - आशातना भवइ होती है ।
मूलार्थ - रत्नाकर ने रात्रि या विकाल में शिष्य को आमन्त्रित किया कि, हे आर्यो ! कौन- २ सोए हुए हैं और कौन- २ जागते हैं । उस समय यदि शिष्य जागते हुए भी रत्नाकर के वचनों को न सुने तो उसको आशातना लगती है ।
टीका- - इस सूत्र में बताया गया है कि यदि शिष्य गुरू के बुलाने पर मौन धारण कर ले तो उसको आशातना लगती है । जैसे- रत्नाकर या गुरू ने रात्रि या विकाल में साधुओं को आमन्त्रित किया "हे आर्यो ! इस समय कौन - २ साधु सोता है और कौन - २ जाग रहा है ?" उस समय यदि कोई शिष्य जागता हो और मन में विचारे कि यदि मैं
